I take younger children if they come from a musical family and the parents practice with them. Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. Consistent, regular practice is what makes a good pianist. I ask that students practice 5 days a week (I have an incentive program), and that parents support them in this effort. For basic instruction, I use the Faber and Faber series Piano Adventures, which has 5 l
evels. This series covers a wide range of styles, including classical, folk, blues, jazz, and pop, and is used in piano pedagogy programs at colleges and universities across the country. It includes theory and technique, as well as beautiful pieces. I supplement the Faber and Faber with material from other sources, including some of my own arrangements. As my students get older, we explore more of the standard classical piano repertoire (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Bartok, etc.) as well as classic legacy rock such as the Beatles and Queen, plus contemporary music by their favorite pop musicians upon request. Together, students and I have even created our own arrangements of music from their playlists. My students have the option to participate in the Illinois Achievement in Music Program, which helps develop performance and technique skills along with knowledge of theory. Please inquire for more information if interested. I encourage students to play music for and with others! I regularly play duets with them at their lessons, and I help interested parents to do so as well. We have regular piano parties, where the students get to play for each other, and I have an annual spring recital, where family and friends can hear them. I have coached kids who have played piano for their school choirs and jazz bands, as well as in their own project bands. Music is enjoyable whether played alone or together! Please contact me if you want more information on my studio! Laura Voigt
