Attention Alcuin parents! Did you know only the coolest parents become carpool door greeters? It's true! We've done the math, and they are coooool. As we prepare for carpool to begin, we're looking for a few more carpool door greeters.

This team has one of the most important and fulfilling roles in our community. They greet the children every morning as they run our 10-minute morning carpool. It's a quick, easy volunteer opportunity, yet an important part of each morning. Reach out to Alex if you're interested or would like more details. 😎

We want our Middle Schoolers to build strong relationships, develop independence, learn to work together as a community, explore new areas, try new things, step out of their comfort zones in a meaningful way, and begin to build the confidence they'll need throughout the school year. With those goals in mind, we're excited to introduce Explore Chicago Week, August 24th-28th.

Our 7th and 8th graders students are spending five full days discovering the incredible city that serves as an extension of their classroom all year long. They'll learn how to navigate the CTA, read transit maps, travel responsibly as a group, enjoy lunches throughout the city, visit unique neighborhoods and destinations, and become active participants in planning many of the week's adventures.

During our staff institute days last week, the staff across both campuses came together for some beginning-of-the-year CPR, first aid, professional development, and a big dose of community. The days afforded Alcuin staff opportunities for intra-level connections. Coworkers who may not have interacted during the school day had time to chat and build relationships. They discussed new ideas, collaborated, and sought guidance or advice. It’s all about growth and continuously raising the bar for our Alcuin teachers and staff.

It was also about tasting delicious food lovingly made by Alcuin coworkers and shared during the all-staff potluck. Finally, we also celebrated staff anniversaries, including Nicole Cochrane (who has been with Alcuin for ten years) and Vira Mandybur (who has been with us for 20 years!)

Many thanks to Lisa Thauvette, a Montessori education consultant, trainer, and founder of Tilt Think, for guiding us through several thoughtful workshops and discussions.
