Moraine Area Career System The MACS Office works with Moraine Valley Community College and its local public high schools to support Career and Technical Education.

MACS is one of the statewide network of Education for Employment (EFE) groups, whose primary goal is to establish quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These training programs incorporate the knowledge and skills needed in life as an integral part of academic and CTE programming and emphasize the continuum of learning from elementary through post-secondary education. Developing and promoting faculty-to-faculty and program-to-program articulation for advanced placement of CTE students;
The provision of in-service programming for staff to further expand the integration of academic and CTE course content;
The expansion of business and industry partnership collaborations, to enhance the delivery of career and technical education;
Providing technical support, assistance and leadership for CTE programs while serving as a liaison to the State Board of Education and Illinois Community College Board.

A big THANK YOU to Moraine Valley Community College for hosting the Annual High School Health Care Career Fair on Friday, October 16, 2026!

More than 160 high school students from Districts 217, 218, 220, 229, 230, and 231 participated in this exciting career exploration event, gaining valuable insight into the many rewarding opportunities available in the health care field.

Throughout the day, students attended health care career breakout sessions and visited career information tables, where they had the opportunity to connect with professionals, ask questions, and learn firsthand about the education, training, skills, and experiences needed to pursue a variety of health care careers.

A special thank you to the Moraine Valley faculty, staff, and health care professionals who shared their time, expertise, and enthusiasm with our students. Your commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of health care professionals is truly appreciated!

Together, we are helping students explore possibilities, discover their passions, and take the next steps toward successful careers in health care! 🩺🏥💙

Fire Safety & First Responders Career Day at Moraine Valley!

On Monday, October 5, 2026, Moraine Valley Community College hosted a Fire Safety & First Responders Career Day for students from the MACS regional high schools.

More than 75 students from High School Districts 217, 218, 229, 230, and 231 participated in this exciting career exploration experience. Students interested in careers in firefighting and emergency medical services (EMT) had the opportunity to learn directly from Fire Science faculty and Fire Academy students while getting a firsthand look at the skills, training, and teamwork required of first responders.

Throughout the day, students rotated through several interactive, hands-on learning stations, including:

🔥 Forcible entry simulator
🧑‍🚒 Donning and doffing firefighting gear
🌡️ Thermal imaging demonstration
🚑 Firefighting and EMT education and career pathways
🚒 Fire hose handling
🧯 Fire extinguisher training

One of the highlights of the day was a side-by-side sprinkler room burn demonstration, which gave students a powerful visual lesson on how quickly a fire can spread and demonstrated the critical role that smoke detectors and sprinkler systems play in protecting lives and property.

Experiences like this allow students to go beyond simply hearing about a career—they get to see it, experience it, and learn directly from those preparing to enter the profession. They also help students better understand the education and training available right here at Moraine Valley as they consider their next steps after high school.

Manufacturing Day 2026

What a great day of career exploration and hands-on learning for our high school students!

A huge thank you to OAI, Inc. for coordinating their annual Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 2, 2026. This event gave students an opportunity to experience today’s manufacturing industry firsthand, learn about the wide variety of careers available, and discover the education, training, and skills that can lead to a successful career in manufacturing.

A special thank you to Accord Carton, Donson Machine, Ability Engineering Technology, and National Tube Supply for opening their doors to our students. During the morning, students toured these local manufacturing facilities and gained an inside look at multiple areas of the industry, including production, quality control, engineering, human resources, and other essential operations. Most importantly, students had the opportunity to meet industry professionals and see the many different career paths that exist within modern manufacturing.

Following the company tours, students traveled to Moraine Valley Community College for an afternoon focused on connecting their industry experience to future education and career opportunities. Students learned about Moraine Valley’s manufacturing-related programs and career pathways, explored the training and skills needed for in-demand careers, and gained a better understanding of how they can move from high school into college, technical training, and ultimately the workforce.

Bringing together local employers, higher education, and our high schools gives students the opportunity to see the complete pathway—from the classroom, to training, to a career.

Approximately 80 students from Districts 217, 218, 220, 229, and 230 participated in this year’s event, and the feedback from both students and teachers was outstanding.

Thank you to OAI, Inc., Moraine Valley Community College, our participating businesses, teachers, counselors, and school districts for working together to provide such a valuable experience for our students. Partnerships like these help students explore their options, make informed decisions about their futures, and discover the many exciting opportunities available in manufacturing.

🍎 Collaboration in Action! On September 16, 2026, our regional Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers gathered at Oak Lawn Community High School for a full-day curriculum network meeting focused on collaboration and professional growth.

Educators from across our Moraine Area Career System districts teamed up to share best practices, strengthen instructional alignment, and build connections that support high-quality learning experiences for our students.

🌟 A huge thank you to Laura Haslam (MVCC ECE faculty member) for collaborating with our teachers to create an exciting ECE career exploration event for our high school students!

🥪 And a special shout-out to Jen Faro (CTE Division Chair at OLCHS) for coordinating the meeting and keeping everyone fueled with a great lunch!

Congratulations to all participants in the Annual High School Business Competition!

On April 17th, students from across the district gathered at Moraine Valley Community College to take on a real‑world challenge: creating and presenting a full marketing plan for a fictional product revealed the morning of the event.

Their creativity, teamwork, and business savvy were on full display—every team should be proud of their work.

🌟 Highlights from the event included:
