Kids Jiu Jitsu is not easy, nor is it meant to be, but the rewards greatly outweigh the struggles. It's not meant to always be full of rewards, nor is it meant to teach kids constant success. It's also meant to teach kids how to fail, and how to properly make a comeback and improve every time it happens. It's meant to teach kids that when they fall, to get back up and push through whatever made them fall in the first place.
Kids almost always want to quit jiu jitsu when they are new due to this sport being so demanding, both physically and mentally.
Parents who instantly allow their kids to quit are teaching them that whenever something in life is difficult, to just run away and quit - that the easiest option is to give up.
But the parents who encourage their kids to stay, not only watch their kids eventually grow to embrace the grind, but to learn a very important life concept that most people don't fully realize: Life doesn't get easier, but you have the option to get tougher and learn to fight through it.
In the last couple of weeks we had kids graduate from our younger kids class into the older age group. And kids in the older age group graduating into the adult class. When they stick it out long enough to prove they are made of toughness and determination, rather than instant gratification and the readiness to quit, they have not only fully earned everyone's respect, but have already shown the courageous, strong people that they are growing up to be.
I personally thank every parent that has kept their kids in this sport through all of the ups & downs. But especially, a thank you to each kid that shows up no matter what the outcome of each practice may be. Jiu Jitsu still wont get any easier from here, but they 100% will be more capable of taking it on.
