Weekly natures walks - one of many wonderful reasons our parents and students love Kay School. Today we saw 1 huge turtle! Last Friday we saw about 20!!
For the past week or two we've had several new visitors check out the school. This red shouldered hawk is just one of them.
OPEN HOUSE at KAY SCHOOL. Monday, February 21st from 12 -2 pm. Visit the facility and find out about our safety protocols; meet our staff; learn about our arts- and project-based methodology and our outdoor programs. Call 703-264-9078 let us know you will visit. We look forward to meeting you.
We teach our students math, language arts, science and more all using Virginia's Standards of Learning. Not only do our teachers have four-year degrees but they also have the crucial experience needed to help young children flourish in today's world.
With no more than 10 in a class it's no wonder 48 out of 48 parents choose Kay School. Granted that's how many parents enrolled their children here, but it's still pretty impressive.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Enjoy your break!
See you next year friends for more of our fun and learning (it never ends)!
Check out our new MULCH!! A big THANK YOU to Mr. Ibrahim! We couldn't have done it without you 🙂
Tony and Lily are hard at work writing their 10s and Gs. Good job guys!!
What's our turkey's favorite dessert? Peach gobbler!
One of our students made a space fort using our magnet tiles!!
Look what we found living under our stairs!
What should we name it?

Has anyone seen Jack?
A big THANK YOU to Fox Mill FD for stopping by this week and teaching our students about fire safety!

Just one of our many excursions in the nearby woods. We checked out some of the critters in the creek, hunted for deer prints, and learned about moss.

During outdoor time, 2 kindergarteners decided to climb one of the poles (about 7 feet tall) on the playground. They tried at first and gave up, but pushed each other to succeed. After about 10 minutes of hard work they finally made it to the top!

We made an aquarium! The kindergarteners made the sea animals (fish, starfish, and octopi), our pre-k class made the coral, and our preschool class helped with the aquarium floor.
What should we do for our next project?

Looking for something different, something with small class sizes and plenty of help? Check out what one parent had to say about Kay School:

"...our daughter was able to form wonderful relationships with her classmates and get individualized attention. We have seen her grow not only academically and socially, but also with her self care/ independence. Due to the location of Kay School my daughter and her classmates get to participate in many different activities throughout the day such as nature walks, working in a mud kitchen, planting flowers and vegetables, and riding bikes."

Come to Kay School for an a-MAZE-ngly fun time. Why fill out worksheets when you can learn shapes, colors and math through play and exploration.

Just a reminder we will be open Friday, but closed for Labor Day.

We're making a GIANT aquarium!
Please send your child to school with frozen fish, squishy squid, and/or teenage turtles.
Check in next week to see our progress!

Tune in next week to see what it will be :)

A big THANK YOU to all of the parents who have helped make this 1st week of school run smoothly. We couldn't have done it without your support!

Tired of the rising COVID numbers in Fairfax County? Kay school cleans AND sanitizes all of our furniture and toys several times during the day. Our students and staff wash their hands frequently and we have SCRUBBERS in our HVAC system. Best of all, we use environmentally safe products to do all of this.
Stay safe out there!

08/21/2021

We still have openings for before and after care at Kay School. Are your children enrolled in Fairfax County? No problem! We're currently doing pickup/drop off at Navy and Fox Mill Elementary School and are looking to expand.

08/19/2021

Get up from the couch and come dance and sing with us! Just make sure you call ahead so we know you're coming 🙂

08/18/2021

Are your kids tired of being stuck indoors all day? Sign them up for aftercare at Kay School! We love being outdoors! Why watch nature from a window, or on a computer when you can take a nature walk with all of your friends.

We've had an awesome summer dancing and drumming with Mr. Kofi, building moving machines with Mr. Nick, meeting new friends, and having lots of fun.
A big THANK YOU to all of the families who have supported us this summer!!

Kay School is still enrolling for this upcoming school year!! Tired of the same old curriculum in public schools? Kay School is all about integrating arts, learning through play, and helping your child become more independent.
Kids too old for Kay School? We're doing drop-off in the mornings and pick-up in the afternoon with a few local schools.

Camp Kay is wrapping up after eight weeks of creative drama, music & movement and imaginative play.

Junior Rangers performed in a circus, traveled to outer space, made story boxes, built miniature cities with recycled materials, explored ocean treasures and studied garden creatures.

Senior Scouts discovered art in nature, created boats, vehicles, mini cities and Rube Goldberg devices, and organized a festival for their circus performing friends.

It's been a great summer!

Camp Kay 2021 is in full swing!

In Week 1, we explored the solar system! We traveled to the moon and the planets; we created models, sketched and researched the origin of their names. Wolf Trap artist Mr. Kofi led us in our travels through stories, singing, drumming and dancing.

In Weeks 2 & 3, we created a circus. We juggled and we clowned; we tamed wild animals; we walked the tightrope; and we drummed, danced and twirled our way through a performance. Our younger friends also went on a bear hunt: over a bridge, through a cave, and across a river.

In Week 4, Senior Scouts will use found objects to explore materials and buoyancy-- then build boats and sail them! Junior Rangers will move, sing, dance and act through Anansi the Spider stories, guided by Mr. Kofi and a second Wolf Trap artist, Ms. Valerie Carroll.

Our Story

Our arts-and-project integrated curriculum offers science exploration, block building, visual arts, story dramatization, music and movement, manipulatives, dramatic play, and small group work in language arts and math. It encourages a relationship between teacher and student that embraces the innate curiosity and rich potential of each child. Classes are small to enable small group activities, individualized attention, and supervised play. We believe that children should explore the outdoors through child-centered curriculum. Come visit our beautiful campus full of joyful learning!

Kay School offers full-day programs for children aged two-and-a-half through Kindergarten (8:30 am to 3:00 pm), a half-day option (8:45 – 11:45 am) for the younger children, and Kay Club (before and after school program) for children through middle school (6:30 – 8:30 am and 3:00 – 6:30 pm). Parent-Child classes and a range of enrichment programs are also provided. Summer Camp Kay is a fun, adventurous and enriching summer experience for children ages two-and-a-half through middle school.
