Oak Harbor Educational Foundation

Oak Harbor Educational Foundation The Oak Harbor Educational Foundation was formed by caring citizens in 1992. OHEF is a private non-profit corporation and all contributions are tax deductible.

With the support from our generous community, OHEF provides scholarships for Oak Harbor School District’s graduating seniors, grants for teachers to support innovative learning opportunities, and stay-in-school funding at the elementary level. The Foundation provides a conduit for donations, manages contributed assets and raises funds to benefit education in Oak Harbor Schools. The citizen board o

f directors oversees the use of funds to ensure they further the mission of the Foundation. OHEF awards tens of thousands of dollars in college scholarships and up to 15 grants for schools annually. OHEF depends on funds raised through annual events, one-time donations, annual donors and endowments which are invested to support ongoing scholarships and programs. This year, OHEF proudly supported North Whidbey Middle School's Calm Crew Skills Group. This program was designed to support middle school students in developing emotional regulation, coping strategies, mindfulness, and healthy communication skills through a structured, school-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-informed approach.

Over a 7-week period, the group focused on helping students:

💡Recognize and manage strong emotions
💡Develop healthy coping skills
💡Improve self-awareness
💡Strengthen peer relationships
💡Increase positive decision-making
💡Build communication and conflict-resolution skills

🗣️One student participant shared, "Calm Crew helped me learn about my emotions and how to deal with them and it helped my anxiety."

Thank you to Oak Harbor Public Schools mental health counselor, Joycelin Vester, for coordinating this program and supporting students with developing these critical skills.

This year OHEF provided funding for the Midway High School Horticultural Class! Midway’s horticulture students raise annuals, perennials, and edible plants from seed stage. The capstone of their hands-on learning experience is an annual plant sale in May; all supported by their amazing teacher, Krista Jackson.
