Adventures in aquaponics! We decided to give some small scale aquaponics a shot. We used normal household things. The tank was inherited. We already had the filter, heater and gravel. We are given foam from a box that shutters were shipped in. The cups were old food storage cups I lost the tops to. We used a woods burner to do the holes in the cups. The foam holes were done with a hot canning ring. We had to put a second layer of foam with much bigger holes to accommodate the root growth because they were sinking with just the rocks. For 4 containers we used cuttings: rosemary, mint, sage and oregano. We will pick 5 others to grow from seed. Instead of gold fish we have chiclids and a clown loach (he will get friends and I'll update the tank before they are too large). The clown loach is to stop the mystery snail infestation.

Summer is almost over. We generally start our year in August but this year? We are holding off. It's still nice out and we there is so much fun to be had. This summer we attended "church camp". We went to a homeschool conference. The kids had orchestra camp. We gardened. The kids spent a little time visiting family. We had a lot of fun but we just didn't get enough done. Time to restructure and keep moving forward!
