Fusion Academy in Oak Brook, Illinois opened in 2016 as Fusion’s 31st campus nationwide. Fusion Oak Brook is a private school where classes are one-to-one: one student and one teacher per classroom. Our Teacher/Mentors can personalize curriculum and pacing for their students’ strengths, interests, and learning style. Students may attend full-time for middle and high school or part-time with classes for credit, tutoring and mentoring, post-secondary counseling, and more. We offer rolling enrollment so students can start at any point, even mid-semester or mid-year.

In conventional schools, motivation often comes from external pressure — grades, competition, fear. But that kind of motivation is fragile. It exhausts students. 🥺

Real motivation comes from something else: knowing you have support. Knowing you can ask for help without judgment. Knowing someone is paying attention to whether you're actually succeeding.

When a student feels that, they stop pushing through obstacles and start solving them. And focus becomes possible.

When a student struggles in traditional school, the blame usually falls on the student. Lazy. Unmotivated. Not trying hard enough. 😵‍💫

But what if the problem isn't the student? What if it's that the system was never designed for how they learn? One lesson, one pace, 30 kids — that's efficient. But it's not effective for every learner.

For 11 years at Barnstable Academy, Jeff has been doing something rare: he's built a classroom where curiosity is contagious. Students leave his STEM classes still buzzing about experiments and discoveries.

But Jeff's impact ripples far beyond his classroom. He opens his door to colleagues. Leads professional development. Mentors teachers. Organizes the school events. And after the bell rings? He's hosting game nights, building community.

Trayce brings warmth, structure, and support into everything she does as our incredible Spanish teacher. She has a special way of making students feel comfortable and confident, especially during tutoring, helping them settle in and get meaningful work done.

Her support with executive functioning helps students stay organized, focused, and set up for success both in and out of the classroom. She truly meets students where they are and helps them grow every step of the way.

Outside the classroom, Trayce loves to travel, spend time with her family, and enjoy live music as a big concert-goer 🎤💛

Whether he’s leading an epic Dungeons & Dragons campaign as our campus Dungeon Master or guiding students through all things math, Nathan knows how to make learning both engaging and fun. He brings creativity and energy into everything he does, helping students think in new ways and stay curious.

You can also count on him to lend a hand with crossword puzzles any day of the week. There’s no challenge too tricky! And of course, his sock game is always unmatched 🧦🔥
