This morning 7 of our HOSA students at OTHS competed in the 1st ever SWC High School Sports Medicine Showcase!

The students were tested on skills such as taping, splinting fractures, anatomical landmarks, and took a written exam! They competed against 40+ students from other SWC schools. They also got to talk to vendors and representatives from nearby colleges with athletic training programs and get to experience using a anatomage table!

This group also had 4 individual place in the top 3 out of all students for some of the skills! These individuals are:
Elena Henry: 3rd place overall for the written exam
Hayley Williams: 2nd place overall - anatomical landmarks
William Brown and Cece McCarthy: tied for 1st place for wrist taping!!

Congrats to all 7 of you guys for competing and representing OTHS well! Your athletic trainers are very proud of you all!

Our modality of the week is heat!

The application of moist heat decreases pain, promotes muscular relaxation, increases circulation, and is great for warming up the muscles for a practice or game!

Also featured is the Varsity Boys soccer team prepping for their game against De Smet tonight!

Hello Panthers!

We are starting a series called “Modality of the Week” where we post some of recovery tools that we have to offer for our student-athletes.

A modality is a therapeutic tool that promotes healing and recovery.

Our first modality of the week are Normatec Compression Boots! They use air compression to reduce muscle soreness, reduce inflammation and swelling, increase blood circulation, and help with overall recovery.
