Dear Families,
We need your help with an important childcare bill in the West Virginia Legislature.
The House of Delegates has passed HB 4191, a bill that supports childcare programs and working families. One of the key parts of the bill allows businesses to partner with local childcare programs to help employees afford childcare.
The bill is now in the WV Senate, but it MUST be placed on the Senate Finance Committee agenda before it can move forward.
Please take a few minutes to contact members of the Senate Finance Committee and respectfully ask them to:
Put HB 4191 on the Senate Finance agenda before it’s too late.
If you contact them, it helps to mention:
• Your child attends a childcare program
• Childcare allows you to work and support your family
• Supporting childcare helps local businesses and the WV workforce
This bill has no fiscal note so make sure to remind them there is no reason not to add and pass it through!
Personal messages from parents make a huge difference. Your voice as a parent and/or a business owner is incredibly powerful. Lawmakers need to hear directly from the families that rely on childcare every day. I am sending a picture with a list of the members of Senate Finance- We have several in North Central WV and I will put their names in BOLD - most importantly to reach out to is Senator Barrett and Senator Roberts- they control what gets on the agenda, and their contact will be listed first. An email sent this weekend would be a huge help! It doesn’t have to be long, but it does need to be personal.
This bill doesn’t solve all the problems in the childcare industry- but it is a great first step toward financial stability for programs across the state AND financial relief for families.
