At Novi Woods Montessori, our preschoolers build strong reading skills by learning to hear and identify the sounds within words. In this Missing Middle Letter work, our child is carefully thinking, analyzing, and choosing the sound that completes each word, strengthening phonemic awareness through hands-on learning.
Rather than guessing or simply memorizing, Montessori encourages children to understand language from its foundation. By taking the time to think independently and connect sounds to symbols, they develop confidence, concentration, and a lifelong love for learning.

Our toddlers are learning that Montessori is not only about individual work, it is also about building relationships and learning from one another. As they work together, they begin to understand important social skills such as sharing, taking turns, patience, and respect.
These lessons are especially meaningful during the toddler years, when children are developing an understanding of themselves and the world around them. In a Montessori environment, children are given the freedom and guidance to collaborate naturally, helping them grow into confident, kind, and thoughtful members of the community.

At Novi Woods Montessori, learning begins from the roots. Through years of hands-on Montessori experiences, our preschoolers develop strong phonemic awareness, understanding how sounds come together to form words and how words come together to create meaningful sentences. In this moment, our young preschooler is confidently building and writing her own sentences with true understanding.
This is what Montessori does. It gives children the foundation to read, write, think independently, and communicate with confidence.

One of our toddler walked into the classroom and immediately engaged in this activity with deep concentration and purpose. As he carefully stacked and balanced each piece, he strengthened his fine motor skills, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
He remained fully focused throughout the activity, showing independence, perseverance, and great pride in his accomplishment. This is the beauty of Montessori learning from early childhood.

What looks like just a simple pouring activity is actually a complex and meaningful learning experience. Our preschooler at Novi Woods Montessori is working with a Practical Life pouring exercise that calls for careful control, steady hands, and focused attention. Each movement he makes is intentional, and each step helps him understand how his actions connect to real work in his environment.
This activity strengthens his hand eye coordination, builds fine motor control, and prepares the small muscles he will later use for writing. Just as important, it gives him the chance to complete a task on his own from start to finish. Through this process he gains confidence, independence, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from mastering something real and purposeful.
