🌊 What a wonderful World Ocean Day at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito! 🦭🐋

Nothing is more rewarding than spending a day in the community teaching children and families about our oceans, marine mammals, and the important role we all play in protecting these incredible ecosystems.

We loved sharing hands-on maker activities, exploring ocean conservation, and inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and celebrated with us! The Girl Scout Troop make our day even more special!

Together, we can help protect our oceans for future generations. 💙

This week in Mobile Maker Club, we explored the amazing world of chameleons!

Students enjoyed reading "Colorful Chameleons" by National Geographic and learned fascinating facts about these unique reptiles, including their habitats, adaptations, and incredible ability to change color.

One of the highlights was discovering how a chameleon's long, sticky tongue helps it catch food with remarkable speed and accuracy. Students had a blast creating their own colorful chameleon projects and exploring how these amazing animals survive in the wild.

Learning about science through hands-on making, creativity, and storytelling makes every lesson an adventure. Super fun! especially with the party blowers used for their tongues (with the noise removed for the adults).

Today in the Mobile Maker Lab, students designed and built their own mini houses powered by both solar energy and batteries!

Our young makers explored basic engineering, electricity, renewable energy, and creative design. It was exciting to watch each student test ideas, solve problems, and customize their projects.

With 8 enthusiastic builders in the lab, the energy was high, and the creativity was even higher. What a fun way to celebrate the start of summer break! We are so proud of the innovation, teamwork, and curiosity these students demonstrated today.

Children created “Mossy” turtles inspired by the beautiful children’s book Mossy by Jan Brett. The story follows an eastern box turtle who grows a small garden of moss and plants on her shell and is taken from her natural habitat to become a museum exhibit. Although admired by many, Mossy becomes sad away from her home, and with the help of a caring curator’s niece, she is eventually returned to the wild, where she belongs.

Through this hands-on maker project, children explored ecosystems, habitats, and the importance of protecting wildlife and keeping animals in their natural environments. Students designed their own turtle habitats using moss, natural materials, and creative building techniques.

The moss was gathered by my husband and me, and many of the supplies were upcycled or handmade in our workshop, helping children connect creativity, sustainability, nature, and STEM learning together in a meaningful way. 🌿🐢✨

Wiggle, Learn, Create!
Today, students explored the amazing world of koalas by creating adorable wiggling koala makers while learning about marsupials, eucalyptus forests, and the importance of protecting animal habitats.

🌟 Today, students explored space, stars, and hands-on creativity! Students created solar system learning tools while learning about planets and motion in space.

Our kindergarten students also learned about the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the bears, while practicing knot-tying and creative lacing techniques to build fine motor and problem-solving skills. 🐻✨Ursa Major is visible now!

What a beautiful day it was to celebrate with Earth Day Marin. We really enjoyed making solar spinner art and whale plushies.
