What more important word on the planet could you learn to read first than the special name given to you by the people who love you most? That's why starting the year with Morning Meeting and Table Time name activities is such a hit!

It's Back To School time all over the valley, including at Roni's House. We're wishing our school-age kids a great year in their classrooms and we look forward to hearing all about it on Fridays! Today was the first day of our school year routine here too, with our Pre-K kids (who learn with us in the morning and with Ms Tasha at Treasures Playschool in the afternoon) and our 3's who joined Morning Meeting as official preschoolers this year!

Mornings in the play yard this week brought the opportunity to transform something into something else. In this case, sidewalk chalk into powder, powder into paint, and paint into art. It was harder work than I thought it would be, but the kids were undaunted. In fact, they weren't about to give up on pounding with the mortar and pestle even though I was ready to. Once they had powder, they experimented with adding water to create the perfect consistency, and turned the fence into their canvas.

Some days you need a little chemical reaction in your morning 🌋.

Summer mornings are good for super heros, sandy streams, and silly smiles! It's been a week of hiding inside from the smokey skies, but it's a little better today and we were ready for a play yard moment

A few of our fun projects at Notus Public Library for
Idaho Commission For Libraries

07/26/2026

Our kids going into first grade and up just finished 5 weeks of "unearthing a story" at Notus Public Library. So much hands-on learning with everything from fossils to engineering to searching for treasure with a metal detector. The grand finale was a visit from the Idaho Museum of Natural History who introduced them to Oryctodromeus (or-ric-dough-dro-mus), Idaho's State dinosaur. Ms. Bev at the library was full of compliments for our group of engaged, respectful learners.👏.

I don't know why I never thought to make bubble prints outside before! I'm notoriously messy as a process art director and it was ever so much easier to clean up. So easy we kept creating until everyone was all popped out. Still not easy to get good pictures though (note my colorful hand in the last photo🙃).

Our 2026 entry in the Notus 4th of July parade. We got the award for best float. The decorating was amateur even after 22 years in the parade 🙃 but you add cute kids ringing bells and tossing lots of candy and you can't really go wrong❤️🤍💙
