☘️ **NOTRE DAME vs. NORTH CAROLINA: WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING**

No. 3 Notre Dame heads to Chapel Hill Saturday, and the consensus among the experts is pretty clear:

**Notre Dame should win this game. But North Carolina has a path to making it interesting.**

The Irish are roughly three-touchdown favorites, and they're coming off a 49–10 dismantling of Purdue. Notre Dame has now won 14 straight games by double digits, and ESPN's FPI has the Irish ranked among the very best teams in the country.

So what should we watch?

🏈 **UNC's defensive front.**
This may be Carolina's biggest strength. If the Tar Heels can slow Notre Dame's running game and force CJ Carr into obvious passing situations, Bill Belichick can start disguising coverages and pressures and try to create a mistake.

🧠 **The Belichick factor.**
UNC had a bye last weekend, which means Belichick has had two weeks to prepare for Notre Dame. You can bet he'll have something designed specifically to make Carr uncomfortable.

☘️ **Notre Dame's defense.**
This may ultimately decide the game. UNC quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. struggled in the second half against Clemson, and now he faces an Irish defense with considerably more talent. If Notre Dame gets Carolina into third-and-long situations, it could be a very long afternoon for the Tar Heels.

👀 **The matchup I'm watching:** CJ Carr vs. whatever Belichick throws at him.

If UNC stuffs the run early, Carr may have to beat disguised coverages and pressure. If he handles that well and Notre Dame protects the football, the talent difference should eventually take over.

And there's a bigger question worth considering:

**Just how good is this Notre Dame team?**

The Irish are 4–0. They've won 14 consecutive games by double digits. They're No. 3 in the country and climbing in the advanced metrics.

Saturday isn't just another game.

One of the most famous lines in all of American sports came out of a copper mining town in the Keweenaw. 🏈

George Gipp was born in Laurium in 1895, a natural athlete who almost fell into football by accident at Notre Dame. Once he did, there was no one quite like him. Halfback, passer, punter, he could do all of it, and in 1920 he became the first Notre Dame player ever named a Walter Camp All American.

That same year, only weeks after his final season, he died of an infection at just twenty five. 💔 Eight years later his coach Knute Rockne told the team a story about Gipp's last words and asked them to go out and win one for the Gipper. They beat an undefeated Army squad that afternoon, and the phrase has never left the language since.

A Keweenaw kid, gone far too young, and still quoted a hundred years on.
