Our director, Jennifer Mason McAward, was interviewed by NPR’s Morning Edition for a report on yesterday’s Senate hearing in which Dr. Anthony Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment rights.

“Saying that you are protected by the Constitution is just something you’re entitled to do as a citizen of the United States,” McAward said.

The Klau Institute hosted the 2026 Midwest Migration Conference earlier this spring as part of our Migration Research Initiative.

The conference brought together a multidisciplinary group of 20 scholars from the University of Notre Dame and 10 other universities. They discussed a variety of timely and consequential topics — from asylum politics and anti-immigrant backlash to the role of faith in decisions to migrate, the reintegration of returnees in Central America, and the experiences of racism among Chinese immigrants in France — alongside broader questions of immigrant identity, intergenerational change, and U.S. immigration enforcement.
