McGrath Institute for Church Life Mining the treasures of Notre Dame to serve the needs of the Church | mcgrath.nd.edu

The McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame partners with Catholic dioceses, parishes, and schools to address pastoral challenges with theological depth and rigor. By connecting the Catholic intellectual life to the life of the Church, we form faithful Catholic leaders for service to the Church and the world.

We can't wait to welcome you to Geddes Hall for another season of Saturdays with the Saints!

Our popular Notre Dame football pregame ritual combines the University's rich traditions of Catholic faith and campus game days. Dynamic lectures on the saints of the poor will be presented by McGrath Institute faculty and staff, along with scholars and friends of the Institute.

Attendees will receive one of our beloved Saturdays with the Saints shirts. This season's artwork draws inspiration from Sacred Scripture, a reminder of Our Lord's care for us.

"Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (St. Matthew 6:26)

How can the Church better accompany young people?

This October, the McGrath Institute for Church Life will gather for a conversation on young people and synodality, bringing together bishops, scholars, researchers, and ministry leaders to explore ways the Church can faithfully serve the next generation.

We are honored to welcome Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe, OP, who will lead spiritual reflections, and Sr. Nathalie Becquart, XMCJ, undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops, who will join as a distinguished presenter alongside Kari Koshiol and Deacon Bob Rice.

In partnership with EQ Saints, this symposium will create space for attendees to listen, learn, and discern together.

Come be part of the conversation. Register at the link below.

"During my time at Notre Dame, I entered back into the Church. The faith is really alive here."

Our new original short film follows four University of Notre Dame students as they reflect on a life-altering pilgrimage to Rome and the Take a Second Look program that inspired it.

A collaboration between the McGrath Institute for Church Life and the Notre Dame Theology Department, Take a Second Look accompanies students through sincere questioning and intellectual growth, preparing them not only to understand the faith more deeply but to practice it for life.

The full film is now live on YouTube (see comments/bio).

☘️🙏 — A very special thanks to Robert Kloska and St. Peter's Pub for the gift of hospitality.

In his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV surprised the world by quoting the wizard Gandalf from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

"It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till."

Tune into today's Church Life Today Podcast and join host Lenny DeLorenzo as he explores the Catholic vision embedded in and absorbed into The Lord of the Rings.
