Saint Mary’s Global Women’s Leadership Institute brings together participants coming from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Tunisia for a two month virtual intensive study of the US, Women’s Empowerment, and Leadership in local and global settings. The Study of the US Institutes are sponsored by the Study of the US Branch of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (

ECA) to foster mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. During the course of the institute, participants will achieve greater understanding of the US not only by learning about the history of women in the US, but by establishing ties of friendship and partnership with Saint Mary’s students and institute staff. These global leaders will become the elected officials who bring governmental resources to “women’s issues.” They will follow the path to economic empowerment and find new solutions to the challenges of the 21st century. Tomorrow’s global women leaders need the ability to promote understanding across cultures; they need the intercultural education that Saint Mary's College provides.

That concludes this year’s SUSI program! We already miss you all so very much. As we part ways, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared. Each of you brought a unique perspective and vibrant energy to our community, enriching our experiences and forging lasting friendships. Although it’s hard to say goodbye, we are grateful for the memories we’ve created and the lessons we’ve learned together. As you embark on new adventures and embrace new challenges, remember that the bonds we’ve formed will continue to connect us no matter where we go. Until we meet again, carry out moments with you.

Over the weekend, our participants were able to attend the Charles Wright Museum of African American History, highlighting the stories of African Americans and their past. They also visited the Arab American National Museum where they learned more about the past and present, history, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans.
