It's Parent Appreciation Day. Today we honor Hugh and Ann Calkins, our immigrant ancestors who left England in 1640 to come to America. They came for religious freedom, the promise of land, and their eye on new opportunities. With their five young children in tow: Sarah, Mary, Rebecca, John, and David, they never dreamed they would have so many descendants spread throughout North America. Daughter Deborah joined the family in 1643, the first Calkins born in America. No matter how you spell the name, you're a cousin!
