Meet Edie, the instructor who guides students through our Bridge to CNA program!

Bridge to CNA is designed for English language learners who want to become Certified Nursing Assistants but may need extra support with English, healthcare vocabulary, test preparation, or entering the workforce.

Students build their skills step by step—completing Personal Care Assistant training and clinical hours, earning healthcare credentials along the way, and learning from experienced healthcare instructors, including nurses. They then move into CNA training, where they prepare for both the written knowledge test and the hands-on skills portion of the Connecticut CNA exam.

Students also receive help with résumés, job preparation, and overcoming the challenges English learners may face when beginning a healthcare career.

Interested in joining Edie’s next class? Complete our class interest form now: https://adulted.norwichpublicschools.org/class-interest-sign-up

Registration appointments begin in mid-August. This program is for eligible ESOL students, with eligibility determined during registration and placement.

We’re hiring: Families Learning English / ESOL Teacher

Norwich Regional Adult Education is seeking a part-time Families Learning English (FLE) / ESOL Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.

This school-based adult ESOL program supports parents and caregivers as they build English language skills, strengthen digital and employability skills, and become more confident partners in their children’s education.

The FLE teacher provides differentiated ESOL instruction for adult learners using Burlington English and supplementary materials, integrates technology through Google Classroom/Google Suite and Viewboards, and connects English learning to real-life family, school, community, and workforce goals.

Families Learning English is designed for parents/caregivers connected to young children, with a child activity/childcare component available for children ages 2–8 while adults attend class. The teacher’s primary role is adult ESOL instruction, with opportunities to support occasional interactive family literacy activities that bring parents and children together.

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00–6:30 PM
Location: Norwich
Start: Anticipated September 2026
Position type: Part-time
Certification: CT Certification for Non-English Speaking Adults #088 or equivalent required
Bilingual/multilingual candidates preferred: Creole, Spanish, French, Chinese

Experience with adult ESOL, family literacy, standardized assessment protocols, computer-based testing, and technology-integrated instruction is strongly preferred.
