This Friday, weβre highlighting the English Learner Education Summer Experience Program at SSCPS! π
The ELE Summer Experience Program is for English Learner students in grades 1-6 to provide additional support in language acquisition. This program meets three days a week during the month of July and combines classroom instruction with offsite field trips providing immersive experiences and extended practice in English language instruction.
Students from 26 sending districts are enrolled at SSCPS, speaking a panoply of world languages! Our classrooms and hallways are filled with students speaking 49 languages including English, Haitian Creole, Igbo, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, French, and more. πππ
At SSCPS, our ELE Summer Experience Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to become proficient in English by developing essential skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English, and to ensure full access to the grade level curriculum. The ELE Summer Experience Program is a wonderful chance for our English Learners to get additional hands-on support to prepare them for classroom work, transition to new grades and Levels at SSCPS, and connect with their peers.
Take it from some of our EL students: this summer program is a big hit in so many ways, from improving learning experiences to creating new friendships! π

This Friday, we're highlighting student field trips at SSCPS! ππ¬π
Field trips are a big part of our students' learning experience at South Shore Charter. Studying in a classroom is the foundation of learning, but students being able to immerse themselves in a subject in an enriching, hands-on way is also invaluable! Not only are students able to learn about different topics, careers, or historical events firsthand, they're able to do so while collaborating and engaging with their peers. Bridging classroom learning with real-world application is a huge highlight of our experiential learning model at SSCPS, and we're so happy to offer these formative opportunities to our students of all ages.
Pictured are a few highlights from SSCPS field trips over recent years! π

This week's Student Feature is all about celebrating diversity on Dress Your Heritage Day! π
Every year, students across all grades embrace their different cultures by wearing traditional clothing, sports jerseys, hats, and headpieces, as well as displaying flags that represent their heritage. Heritage Day is always a wonderful way to celebrate our diverse community at SSCPS, and gives students and staff the opportunity to not only share their own heritage, but to learn about other cultures as well.
We embrace our differences every day at SSCPS, but Dress Your Heritage Day is an extra-special occasion dedicated to cultural expression and celebration for our whole school community. Special thanks to Mia Strahm for capturing the day, and to our featured students for sharing a bit about their heritage! π

This Friday, our Student Feature is all about the SSCPS Fashion Show! ππ¨
Each year, the High School Art Workshop puts on a fashion show in order to showcase our students' hard work and creativity. Students spend months before the show exploring their inventiveness to create one-of-a-kind outfits and costumes to showcase in front of their peers and teachers. These months leading up to the Fashion Show are a time of important collaboration and connection between students where they can gain insight from and friendship with like-minded peers in their classes. π§΅πβοΈ
The SSCPS Fashion Show is an incredibly valuable way for students to display their unique sense of style and creativity, improve their self-esteem and confidence, and express themselves in ways that may not be possible through traditional academic channels. Enjoy some photos from this year's SSCPS Fashion Show, and be sure to check the Weekly Update every Wednesday for more information about all of our school events! πΈππͺ½
