Happy first week of school! πŸŽ’

Whether your student walked in beaming or needed an extra hug at drop-off, big feelings this week are completely normal β€” for kids and for parents.

A fresh year means new teachers, new routines, and new chances to grow. We're cheering for every student finding their footing right now β€” especially the ones for whom school takes a little extra courage.

Here's to a wonderful year of learning ahead! 🍎

Did you know? 🧠 When a child traces a letter while saying its sound, they're not just practicing β€” they're building reading pathways in the brain. That's multisensory learning: seeing, saying, hearing, and touching all at once.

For students with dyslexia and other learning differences, this approach helps letters and sounds truly stick in a way that flashcards alone often can't.

As backpacks come back out this week, here's an easy one to try at home: have your child write their spelling words with a finger on the kitchen table, saying each letter out loud. Small, simple β€” and surprisingly powerful. ✏️

Myth: Struggling readers just need to try harder. πŸ’‘

Fact: Reading difficulties like dyslexia have nothing to do with effort or intelligence. They come from differences in how the brain processes written language β€” and often the students who struggle most are already working twice as hard as their classmates just to keep up.

What actually helps is structured, multisensory instruction: teaching reading step by step, in a way each student's brain can truly grab hold of. With the right approach, real progress isn't just possible β€” it's expected.

So as the new school year gets rolling, one thing worth remembering: a struggling reader is never a lazy reader. πŸ’š

The first day of school is just around the corner β€” and for many families, that brings a mix of excitement and butterflies. 🍎

If your child learns differently, a new school year can feel like a big unknown. Here's what we tell our students: a new year isn't a test of last year β€” it's a fresh page. New teachers, new routines, and new chances to show how far they've come.

This week, try asking your child for one thing they're looking forward to and one thing they're nervous about. Naming the worry is often half the battle β€” and it helps them start the year feeling heard.

From all of us at The FRED Center: you've got this, and so do they. πŸ’š

Great teaching isn't about getting every student to the same place the same way. It's about finding the door each learner walks through best β€” and holding it open until they believe they belong inside. πŸšͺ✨

Here's to every teacher, tutor, and parent opening doors this year.
