October’s Pondering Permie may be a sales pitch to join our Permaculture Design Course class of 2027.

It may also be an invitation to learn and practice about sustainable gardening practices in a time when there isn’t much gardening to be done.

🌱The growing season is winding down. The learning season is beginning 🌱

It may also be an invitation to join a curious, vibrant community and discover that permaculture is about a whole great big bunch more than gardening.

Let’s see just how far these ideas can take us.

Permaculture Principle #12: Creatively use and respond to change.

Some principles of permaculture seem to apply more at different times of the year. Now that it’s officially Autumn, we’re thinking more about how we creatively use and respond to change. This is a time of changes big & small. The temperature change may be small but it’s palpable. Getting your family into a new routine - maybe even a new school - feels much greater.

Your land will see great shifts in the coming months too. How can you - in life and in your garden - follow the natural current of energy, conditions, situations, circumstances…instead of fighting it?

“Community doesn’t require agreement. It asks something harder of us.

To show up. To listen. To become curious.

To hear something we haven’t heard before. To disagree without deciding that the person across from us no longer belongs.

To occasionally encounter an idea that makes us say:
I never thought of it that way before.

Maybe that is People Care in practice.”

This month’s read is Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, largely credited as book that launched the environmental movement. Her research, her findings, her words…are profound. We will have a lot to talk about! Book Club is free but seats are limited. Please RSVP!
