The seasons of our beloved Kitt have come to a close. 🤍

What a beautiful, gentle, and loving soul she was, and what a special part of the Rose Farm story she became. Through the years, Kitt had a way of finding herself right in the middle of so many moments at the farm. From quiet days in the gardens to Farm School mornings, celebrations, weddings, and everything in between, she may very well have been our most photographed cat. And we have a feeling she knew it. 🐾

She was loved deeply by our Rose Farm family, but we know she was also loved by so many of you who stopped to pet her, photograph her, or simply enjoy her sweet company during a visit.

As we say goodbye to our dear Kitt, we would love to celebrate the beautiful life she lived here at the farm. If you have a favorite photo or memory of Kitt, please share it with us in the comments. We would love nothing more than to see her through your eyes and gather the many little moments that made her so special.

Thank you, sweet Kitt, for all the love, companionship, and joy you brought to Rose Farm.

This , we’re sending a BIG Rose Farm cheer to one of our beloved Busy Bees, Karson Oberender! 🐝💛

Karson’s Rose Farm story began four years ago when she first joined us as a volunteer. Since then, we’ve had the joy of watching her grow into an incredible young woman and an important part of our farm family. Whether she’s welcoming guests in The Shoppe, working among the flowers in the field, or helping make one of our special events come to life, Karson is always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed. She brings a wonderful combination of leadership, kindness, hard work, and a can-do spirit, usually with a big smile, too!

And now, Karson is off on her next big adventure! 🎓🏃‍♀️ This fall, she begins her freshman year at Western Illinois University, where she’ll also compete as a member of the Cross Country/Track & Field team.

Karson leaves behind quite a legacy at Martensdale-St. Mary’s, where she was an outstanding student-athlete. A member of National Honor Society and Best Buddies, she also participated in cross country, track & field, cheerleading, and softball. She made multiple trips to STATE in both cross country and track & field, and even broke a few records along the way! 🌟

Karson, it has been such a gift to have you grow up alongside us at Rose Farm. We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, heart, and joy you’ve shared with our team and our guests over the past four years. As you trade the farm fields for college classrooms and the starting line at WIU, know that your entire Rose Farm family will be cheering you on every step of the way! 💛🐝

Go do BIG things, Karson. We’re so proud of you! 🎉

On Friday, August 14th, we welcomed guests to Rose Farm for an extraordinary evening celebrating the beauty of Iowa, from the native prairie beneath our feet to the flowers growing in our gardens and the incredible food grown by farmers right here in our state. 🌾🌸

Our Prairie Walk + Harvest Dinner, presented in partnership with Iowa State University, allowed guests to discover the remarkable story of Iowa’s native landscape, sharing insights about pollinators, prairie restoration, conservation, healthy soil, clean water, wildlife, and the important connections between them all. Guests also explored the interactive Conservation Station for a hands-on look at the innovative practices helping care for Iowa’s land for generations to come.

Then it was time to gather around the table. The tables themselves were a celebration of late summer at Rose Farm. Arrangements overflowing with clouds of blue hydrangeas were accented with brilliant pops of raspberry and golden celosia, jewel-toned dahlias, and cheerful strawflowers.

Chef Aaron Holt of Catering by Doolittle Farm treated guests to a beautiful menu inspired by the season and sourced from local Iowa farms and businesses:

🧀GRAZING BOARD
Local cheeses + charcuterie with honey-inspired appetizers garnished with edible flowers

🥗HONEY CITRUS SALAD
Local organic greens, honey citrus vinaigrette, Iowa Prairie Breeze white cheddar, dried figs, pickled radish, marinated tomatoes + cucumbers

🍗HEIRLOOM FIRE-BRAISED CHICKEN THIGHS
New potato confit, Iowa sweet corn succotash, herbed peppercorn gravy + pea tendrils

🍯HONEY-LAVENDER CRÈME BRÛLÉE
Local cream, eggs, lavender + honey, garnished with edible flowers and fresh berries

Our hearts are full of gratitude for Iowa State University, Chef Aaron Holt, our local farmers and producers, and every guest who joined us for this meaningful celebration of Iowa agriculture, conservation, flowers, food, and community. 🌾🐝🌸

It’s Dahlias Y’all! Come capture the beauty of Rose Farm’s spectacular dahlia gardens through the art of watercolor. Spend a relaxing evening surrounded by blooms as local artist Christine Hilbert guides you through a two-hour watercolor workshoppe inspired by Rose Farm’s collection of 32 stunning dahlia varieties on Friday, August 28th.

Drawing inspiration from the vibrant colors, intricate petals, and graceful movement found throughout the gardens, you’ll learn watercolor techniques that bring flowers to life on paper. Rose Farm was honored to bring the floral vision to life for Payton Janssen + Madison Clark’s beautiful June wedding.

Payton + Maddie were married on June 5th in a church in Ames, followed by a beautiful reception at Willow on Grand in Des Moines. For her wedding flowers, Maddie envisioned a soft, feminine palette of blush and pink, the perfect complement to an early summer celebration.

We gathered some of June’s loveliest flowers, including peonies, David Austin garden roses, pink snapdragons, and other seasonal flowers blooming around the farm. The result was romantic, garden-inspired, and wonderfully timeless.

For the reception, we created two large statement arrangements, one welcoming guests at the seating table and another displayed alongside wedding photographs from generations past. We loved the sentiment behind this table and the way flowers surrounded such a beautiful collection of family history.

Two floor arrangements were designed to frame the couple during their church ceremony and were later repurposed at the reception, where they found a second home in front of Payton + Maddie’s sweetheart table.

And then there was Maddie’s bouquet. Filled with soft pink blooms and gathered in our signature garden-inspired style, it was made especially meaningful by a rosary wrapped around the stems, a treasured gift she carried with her as she walked down the aisle.

From heirloom photographs to a cherished rosary to armfuls of June flowers, this wedding was filled with thoughtful details that made it feel deeply personal.

Congratulations, Payton + Maddie! We wish them all the best today + in the years ahead!

Join us this as we celebrate one of the brightest rays of sunshine at Rose Farm, our beloved Farm School Educator, Jeni Warwick!

Jeni joined the Rose Farm family in 2023, and we truly can’t imagine Farm School without her. Each Friday throughout the summer, she has a magical way of turning the farm into a classroom, bringing learning to life through hands-on lessons about pollinators, flowers, farm animals, birds, owls, frogs, worms, and all the wonderful little creatures that call the natural world home.

With Jeni leading the way, there is always plenty of learning, laughter + curiosity to go around. She has an incredible gift for meeting children right where they are, encouraging their questions, celebrating their discoveries, and making learning feel like an adventure. And her cheerful spirit extends far beyond Farm School! You’ll also find Jeni lending a hand in The Shoppe and helping with special celebrations around the farm, always making our guests feel right at home.

A graduate of Central College, Jeni brings more than 18 years of experience as an elementary educator and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Early Learning at the Science Center of Iowa. Her passion for children, education, nature + creativity shines through in everything she does.

When she isn’t teaching or spending time with her beautiful family, Jeni loves animals, reading, running + traveling, and wherever she goes, she brings along that signature bubbly personality we adore so much.

Jeni, thank you for helping thousands of little learners discover, wonder, explore + grow at Rose Farm. You make Farm School brighter, happier + a whole lot more fun simply by being YOU. We are endlessly grateful to have you as part of our Rose Farm family!
