The EV Club of Connecticut is hosting a Zoom presentation on May 19th, 7PM from Stepwise Electric. Stepwise has an IES docket item that has been approved by PURA for a pilot. It is a smart load management device that would enable someone to install a 240 volt EV charger if they have constrained electrical service or an old panel. It uses real time data to dynamically throttle charging if the overall household load temporarily exceeds what the panel can support. This avoids the expensive option(s) of increasing electric service or upgrading the panel.
The pilot will enable 100 residents to have the cost of the device and installation covered if they live in or United Illuminating territory. It is a bit of needle-threading to find people who are in the market for an EV charger (or would like to upgrade to a more powerful charger)) and have these kinds of constraints. According to EnergySage, this happens in about 20% of cases.
It uses real time data to dynamically throttle charging if the overall household load temporarily exceeds what the panel can support. This avoids the expensive option(s) of increasing electric service or upgrading the panel.

Just to recap 👉 Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration will feature a wide range of family-friendly activities, sustainable vendors, and informational/educational exhibits celebrating our community and support of our natural environment and resources. Sustainable Fairfield also will present its annual Drive Electric Earth Day EV Showcase.
