“Our road to healing begins today. I will continue to show up each day with an open heart—grounded in empathy and respect for our teachers, our classified staff, our administrators, and every student and family we serve.

These past ten days have tested us, but they do not define us. Today, we turn the page—together. I warmly welcome our students and staff back to our schools and classrooms, and I encourage each of us to take the time to reconnect, to restore trust, and to rebuild the sense of community that makes Little Lake so special.

Our students are watching how we move forward—how we treat one another, how we lead, and how we care. Let us show them what unity, compassion, and resilience truly look like. This is a new chapter for our District—one rooted in respect, stability, and a shared commitment to one another.

Together, we will restore normalcy. Together, we will move forward. And together, we will build a stronger Little Lake.”

With deep gratitude and respect,

Monica Martinez - Johnson

Juntos vamos a seguir adelante.

Monica Martinez-Johnson

The Little Lake City School District and the Little Lake Educators Association have reached a tentative agreement that will bring this strike to a close and allow teachers to return to their classrooms.

Throughout this process, both sides remained committed to reaching a resolution—grounded in a shared understanding that students belong in classrooms, supported by the teachers and school communities they rely on every day.

We recognize the impact this has had on students, families, teachers, staff, and the broader community, and we are grateful for the patience and resilience shown during this time.

This agreement reflects meaningful progress and a renewed focus on what matters most: restoring stability for students, supporting our teachers, and getting educators back into classrooms as quickly as possible while maintaining the fiscal responsibility needed to protect the long-term stability of the District.

Additional details will be shared following ratification by both parties.

The Little Lake city school District will return to negotiations today at 3 PM at a secure, undisclosed location to ensure a safe and productive environment for all participants

Monday nights incident made clear that negotiations must occur in a setting where individuals can participate freely, communicate openly, and leave without interference. That is a basic expectation for any good-faith process.

Our approach at the table has not changed. We remain committed to reaching a fair, responsible agreement that supports our teachers while protecting the long-term stability of the district for students and families.

We have made meaningful movement and recent proposals, and will continue to engage constructively. Our focus remains on resolving this in a way that gets teachers back into classrooms as quickly as possible.

Little Lake City School District remains committed to reaching a fair and responsible agreement that brings teachers back to classrooms and restores stability for students and families.

Following Monday's negotiations, District representatives were blocked from safely exiting the property by some union members and individuals not authorized to be on site. Individuals were observed scaling the perimeter gate to gain unauthorized entry to the parking lot, and demonstrators blocked driveways, preventing unarmed public safety officers from accessing the premises. Law enforcement was subsequently called to the scene to safely es**rt District personnel and to remove unauthorized parties. These actions are unacceptable.

Because of these safety concerns, Tuesday's 9:00 a.m. negotiations will not move forward until a security plan is implemented. Tonight's scheduled Board meeting has also been postponed to a future date.

Negotiations must continue in a setting where all participants can communicate openly, negotiate in good faith, and leave safely — without intimidation, interference, or disruption.

"Our focus has not changed," said Acting Superintendent Monica Martinez-Johnson. "We will not be distracted from our responsibility to reach a fiscally responsible resolution that brings our teachers back to their students. We remain ready to return to the table as soon as secure, respectful, and productive conditions are in place."

The District will continue working to resume negotiations as quickly as possible.
