This Saturday, Wheaton College Men's Soccer will host the second annual Cushing Cup. The event is in honor of legendary head coach Matt Cushing, who passed away in August 2017. It's been nearly 62 years since Joan Logue '63 hosted a fundraiser in support of Black civil rights activists arrested for passive resistance sit-ins at lunch counters. The event raised $257 (about $2,437 in today's dollars), which was sent to Rev. Ralph Abernathy in Montgomery, Alabama. This Women's History Month, we're honoring Joan and the many Wheaton women who have made a difference through their activism.

Hilda Geiringer fled Nazi Germany to face a new challenge: being accepted in academia. She was the first woman to teach applied mathematics at a German university and went on to teach at Wheaton from 1944-1959. Shamar Mahon ’20 was recently elected as the youngest member of Bloomfield, Connecticut's town council. “The race was very exciting. I was the underdog.
