WLSD GAME OF THE WEEK

Friday night football is back, and we’re headed to Norton for an interstate showdown!

The Unaka Rangers make the trip across the state line from Tennessee to battle the John I. Burton Raiders under the lights at Lawson-Fitchko Stadium.

Kickoff: 7:00 PM

Shane Hubbard and Ian Tate will have the call on 92.5 FM / 1220 AM WLSD.

Norton City Schools has scheduled a Special Education Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday September 1, 5:30 PM at the Norton City Schools School Board Office. This meeting is open to the public.

Norton City Schools Announcement 2026-27:
SHOW YOUR SCHOOL SPIRIT!

To encourage student involvement and school spirit, all students enrolled in Norton City Schools (Pre-K through Grade 12) will once again receive free admission to home VHSL-sanctioned events.
This free admission is a privilege and comes with the following guidelines:

The first event for free student admission will be Friday, August 26 at our home volleyball game—New students will receive a school badge displaying their identification information as a NCS student for admission by August 24. Be on the lookout for these to come home in book bags!
If you were enrolled with NCS last year, you have already received your badge.

Supervision: Students in Pre-K through 7th grade must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Eligibility: Students who are currently under suspension or have been identified as truant will not receive free admission.

If a badge was/is lost, a replacement fee of $5.00 will apply.

Until the badge is replaced, the student must pay regular admission.

Event Type: Free admission applies only to regular-season home events. Admission will be charged for all post-season (tournament or playoff) events.

We look forward to seeing our students and families proudly supporting Raider athletic and academic competitions throughout the year!

We are aware that some families and staff are experiencing issues and unexpected challenges with our new communication system. We understand that these issues can be frustrating, especially when you are trying to access important information or complete a task.

Our team is actively working with our software provider to identify and resolve these issues as quickly as possible. As with any new system, there is an adjustment period, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges.

Please know that we are listening to your concerns, documenting the issues being reported, and working diligently toward solutions. Our goal is to make this system as user-friendly and reliable as possible for our students, families, and staff.

This Superintendent was so excited to welcome all employees and families back with a Sunday picnic, start my first day of school with Seniors at the Senior Sunrise, catch a morning bus route, and ending the day with recognizing students at a Board meeting. Welcome back Raiders! Let’s make this year our best yet!

We are excited to welcome our students, families, faculty, and staff back for another year of learning, growth, and achievement. We are proud of our schools, grateful for the continued support of our families and community, and especially excited to see our students back in our classrooms.
