APIMESA Trip to Chinatown in Boston. Join EASA & the Marshall Center on a trip to Chinatown on APRIL 18TH! Students will explore the history of Chinatown and its local community through a guided tour. All students are required to sign up for this trip in advance and attend the guided tour on April 18th. 10 AM: Bus leaves from Howard Street. Limited to 20 sign-ups only, first come first serve. Thursday, 4/23 from 3:30 - 4:45, join RSL in the Commuter Lounge for a Mindfulness and Loving Kindness Meditation class. Monk Fabian and several other presenters from Wat Nawamintararachutis Buddhist Temple in Raynham, MA will guide us through mindfulness and metta (loving kindness) meditation practices.

Join us for the MLK Legacy Keynote Speaker on Tuesday Feb, 10th at 5:00 in Hindle Auditorium. Our keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Derron O. Wallace ’07, Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Education Policy at Brown University. A sociologist of race, ethnicity, and education, Dr. Wallace examines structural and cultural inequalities affecting Black youth globally and is the award-winning author of The Culture Trap. We are delighted to welcome him back to campus as a distinguished alum whose work models the transformative power of scholarship and public engagement.
As part of the celebration, Wheaton will also present the MLK Legacy Award to three members of our community: one student, one faculty member, and one staff member, who exemplify Dr. King’s values through their leadership, service, and commitment to justice.
The celebration will also feature the winners of the MLK Legacy Student Creativity Showcase, highlighting student work inspired by Dr. King’s enduring legacy.

Zangar Freeman is a first-generation Liberian-American jewelry artist, educator, and veteran who integrates cultural storytelling and art therapy practices into his beadwork. ZMakesBeads is a Black-owned handmade jewelry business specializing in unique, handcrafted pieces, including necklaces, bracelets, and chokers. Each design is created using semi-precious stones and an array of natural and distinctive beads, offering customers more than just jewelry—each piece is an artistic expression.

Thank you to everyone in the Wheaton community who donated to the Norton Head Start Holiday Gift Drive. We were able to grant the wishes of 42 children. Your generosity was overwhelming!! Our sincere appreciation to those who helped us wrap gifts and load the bus!

MLK CREATIVITY SHOWCASE - Submission link is live! As part of our campus-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Program, the Marshall Center invites students to submit creative work that reflects current reality and also ties to Dr. King’s philosophies and principles of equity, justice and peace. We invite you to create something in response to what's going on now, a snapshot of your experience, around racial justice.

Submissions must be original work and can be: a short written reflection (poetry fiction/ narrative essay/ blog / journal entry); short dramatic monologue, dialogue, or spoken word; visual art(photo, painting; dance; or music/song. All submissions will be displayed at our Art Showcase in February as part of our MLK Legacy program. Student winners will be announced and their work will be shared as part of the evening program on February 10th.

Our staff team from the Marshall Center at the Base will select the top creative arts submissions, awarding $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $150 for third, based on creativity, relevance, and clarity.
