The Marshall Center exists to affirm unique identities, to build a community that draws from them and to cultivate leaders who will introduce to the world the value of human diversity.

The Marshall Center and Center for Social Justice and Community Impact, are coming together with many others to officially commemorate Juneteenth (Freedom Day, Liberation Day, Jubilee Day) - June 19th, 2021. Juneteenth is now officially a federal holiday.

We want to recognize the impact this day has on the African-American community as it reminds us of the history of injustice for our Black community members. We hope you enjoy our post and encourage you to learn more! Happy Juneteenth, Wheaton.

TAKEOVER TIME!!! The Marshall Center, Counseling Center, and Global Ed have teamed up with students to send you well wishes and positivity during finals. We wanted the opportunity to showcase the beauty of sending love, support, and affirmation through language. Check out Jimun Jeong’s ‘23 video and stay tuned for more!

Korean to English Translation:

Hello.
This is Jimun Jeong from the Class of 2023, majoring in International Relations.

Amid an ongoing pandemic, another semester is coming to an end. Although this semester was a lot busier and sometimes difficult/tiring compared to other semesters, the fact that this semester is coming to an end cheers me up.

I find comfort and happiness in small things in the middle of a busy life. I feel happy and comforted when I take a walk on the school campus at sunset, meet my friends and talk, call my parents before the day ends. Of course, everyone's happiness and comfort are different but I hope you could also find happiness and comfort from small things in your busy life like I do.

I hope that you will take the upcoming exams well and finish this semester well/strong.
Thank you.

Anti-blackness and hate has no place here. As we continue to reflect on the act of violence that occurred just last week, the Marshall Center staff wanted to send a clear message of solidarity. If you know anything about the perpetrator, we ask that you please use one of our systems of reporting. We have linked the bias incident report in our bio for easy access. We encourage our community members to sign up to attend our discussion space on Wednesday, March 3rd from 5-6 PM EST. These acts of bias will not be tolerated. We are here to offer support and will continue to stand by our our students.

In collaboration with @wheatonma.sjci we would like to share our Civil Rights display we featured in Balfour Hood just last year! We continue to recognize the impact the Civil Rights Movement has made to our history and how it continues to shape our legislation and fight for social justice. There is still much work to be done. We hope you enjoy reading (or rereading) these slides and encourage you to research more! Special thanks to @wallacelibrary for your support in putting this information together.
