Our Story
The Elisabeth Amen Nursery School was founded in 1931 by Elisabeth Amen, professor and chair of the Education and Psychology Department at Wheaton College. Professor Amen's particular interest in researching effective early childhood education led her to open one of the nation's first college-sponsored laboratory preschools. Professor Amen's passion for quality early education is still embedded today in the meaningful "hands-on" experiential learning opportunities offered at the Elisabeth Amen Nursery School at Wheaton College. Providing preschool children opportunities to experiment, discover, and grow with joyful curiosity and confidence is the foundation of our philosophy.
At the Elisabeth Amen Nursery School, your preschool child’s growth and development is guided and nurtured by experienced, professional early childhood educators who possess a passion for early learning. Our commitment to learning through playful engagement in interests opens avenues to authentic early education that fosters confidence, self-regulation, social-emotional intelligence, skill development, and joyful love for learning.
