CSUN professor Karin L. Stanford is shining a light on Los Angeles’ often-overlooked civil rights history in her new book, "Marching West: The Los Angeles Civil Rights Movement in Photographs". Featuring more than 100 images, the book explores the people and movements that helped shape the city’s civil rights legacy. It will be published by Getty Publications on June 16.

As Los Angeles and cities across the United States, Mexico and Canada prepare to host the 2026 World Cup, soccer fever is sweeping the region.
The sport has long been popular in Southern California, and it also has a rich history at CSUN. Matador Men’s Soccer has won 11 conference titles, earned seven Division I championship berths and produced nine Major League Soccer Draft selections.

CSUN’s Black Scholars Matter program celebrated the graduation of four students from its first cohort, marking a milestone for the academic enrichment and mentorship program. 🎓
Since launching in 2022, BSM has provided academic, social, and emotional support, while fostering community and Black culture on campus.

Innovation was on full display at CSUN’s Senior Design Project Showcase, where engineering and computer science students presented more than 40 capstone projects, including autonomous rovers, fire-resistant structures and a shape-morphing robotic hawk. 🚀
The grand prize went to CSUN ISAM, a student team that developed an autonomous rover for future NASA missions to the Moon and Mars.

More than 10,000 graduates and guests gathered at CSUN Honors Convocation 2026 to hear alumnus Doug Emhoff ’87 reflect on how the university helped shape his path — from working student, to the nation’s first Second Gentleman. 🎓
“CSUN helped me get there,” Emhoff told students as he encouraged them to stay engaged and lead with purpose.

During the first commencement ceremony of the season, Andrew J. Anagnost ’87 served as keynote speaker for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Science and Mathematics.
Anagnost, a alumnus and president and CEO of Autodesk, shared inspiring words with graduates about resilience, grit and finding a path where they can make a difference.
He praised for believing in him and providing the foundation for his journey. Anagnost encouraged graduates to pursue their goals and not be afraid to fail. He told graduates to use their grit, leverage their difference and follow their impact.
