Come experience Always Running: Photography by Luis J. Rodriguez — a rare and powerful look through the lens of the iconic author, poet, activist, and art advocate.
This exhibition features Rodriguez’s intimate photographic work documenting his life in East Los Angeles from the 1960s through the 1980s. His images capture the neighborhoods, community spaces, and everyday people who shaped him — the same stories and struggles that later fueled his writing and activism.
Luis J. Rodriguez is one of the most influential voices in Chicano literature, a former Los Angeles Poet Laureate, and the founding editor of Tia Chucha Press, as well as cofounder of Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore — a vital creative home for art, expression, and community empowerment in Los Angeles.

Exhibition Announcement: “Our Sun Will Rise” by Kalli Arte Collective
📍 CSUN West Gallery | May 3–22, 2025
🎉 Opening Reception: Sat, May 3, 3–6PM (with MA/MFA Graduate Exhibition)
About the Show:
“Our Sun Will Rise” is the culmination of Kalli Arte Collective’s residency as CSUN’s first Virginia A. Orndorff Artists-in-Residence. The exhibition celebrates family, love, and cultural heritage through vibrant prints and mixed-media works.
Featured Artists:
Kalli Arte Collective — a family of six self-taught artists: Adriana Carranza, Alfonso Aceves, and their children Sara, Ione, Diego, and Emilio. Known for their community-centered murals, workshops, and exhibitions like Sueños Real (Self Help Graphics & Art).
💬 The Inspiration:
The show orbits around the love for their newborn granddaughter, weaving themes of resilience, identity, and Mexican-American heritage. “She awakened something within us—we want to share this love with everyone,” says Carranza.
🎓 Student Collaboration:
CSUN students co-curated and produced the exhibition, working alongside the Collective in printmaking, ceramics, and design—an initiative made possible by the Orndorff Residency Program.
