What a year it has been at STEM Lab! πŸ’‘βœ¨

This year, our students asked big questions, explored new ideas, solved real-world problems, designed creative solutions, collaborated with community experts, and discovered the power of curiosity and innovation. From field experiences and hands-on investigations to engineering challenges, PBL showcases, and moments of wonder, our learners truly embraced what it means to think critically, create boldly, and make an impact. πŸŒŽπŸ”¬πŸš€

As we head into summer, we hope all of our students continue to explore, imagine, build, question, create, and stay curious about the world around them. Whether you are hiking a trail, building something new, reading, observing nature, traveling, or simply trying something different, learning is everywhere! β˜€οΈπŸŒ±πŸŽ¨πŸ“š

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community partners for making this year so meaningful and inspiring. We are so proud of all that was accomplished this year at STEM Lab.

Have a safe, joyful, and curiosity-filled summer! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in August for another year of innovation, discovery, and learning together. πŸ’™

Today, we celebrated our preschoolers at their
graduation ceremonies. Whether they continue to attend STEM Lab for kindergarten or move on to another school, we know that they will do great things!

Last night, we celebrated our incredible 8th grade STEM Lab students β€” creative thinkers, innovators, collaborators, and problem solvers who have spent years learning how to ask big questions and tackle real-world challenges. Many of these students have been part of our STEM Lab family since kindergarten, and it has been amazing to watch them grow into compassionate leaders and changemakers.

As they head off to high school and beyond, we hope they continue to pursue their curiosity, think boldly, and use their talents to make a meaningful impact on the world around them. The future is brighter because of this group of students, and we cannot wait to see where their journeys lead next.

Congratulations, 8th graders β€” your STEM Lab family is so proud of you! πŸŽ“βœ¨

Today our 5th graders showcased their incredible thinking during their β€œNo Planet B” panel, where they pitched innovative solution ideas and business plans focused on creating a more circular economy and sustainable future. πŸŒŽβ™»οΈ

Students shared creative ideas to reduce waste, rethink consumption, and design systems that help protect our planet for future generations. They also received valuable feedback from industry professionals who are actively leading this movement in their own careers and organizations.

We are so grateful for the time, expertise, and encouragement our panelists shared today. Not only did they inspire the next generation of sustainability advocates, but they also helped students see the many different career pathways within the sustainability industry.

A core part of our STEM model is exposing students to authentic, real-world careers and experiences so they can discover their passions, strengths, and future possibilities. Today was an incredible example of students learning that they truly can make a difference. πŸ’‘πŸŒ±

Our 8th graders wrapped up their STEM Career Capstone Problem-Based Learning projects this week, and we could not be more proud of the creativity, passion, and innovation they demonstrated! πŸ’‘βœ¨

Students identified real-world problems that matter deeply to them, then worked through the full design process to select, design, implement, iterate, and pitch their solution ideas. From engineering and healthcare to law, architecture, and construction management, students explored a wide variety of STEM career pathways while developing solutions with purpose and impact.

A huge thank you to our incredible community partners who helped mentor, guide, and inspire our students throughout this experience, including Terumo, Center for Workforce Initiatives, Wold Architects and Engineers, healthcare professionals, Polaris Law Group, and experts in construction management. Your partnership made authentic learning possible.

It has been incredible to watch these students grow throughout their STEM journeys over the years. We know this is only the beginning, and we cannot wait to see the amazing things they will accomplish in the STEM world and beyond. πŸš€

An exciting update from our 5th grade "inclusive playground" PBL and the City of Thornton!

Project Update – Spring 2026

Design is underway for the renovation of the Margaret Carpenter Park playground and splash pad, with construction anticipated in 2027–2028.

Since kickoff in February, Thornton has completed extensive community outreach to help shape the design. Input was gathered from 5th grade students at the Adams 12 STEM Lab, from families during pop-up events in the park on Mondays throughout March, and from hundreds of residents at the Eggcessible Eggstravaganza in April. More than 500 families also completed the online survey, providing valuable guidance that helped create three early concept alternatives for the future playground and splash pad.

Those concepts are shown in the attached pictures. Each one explores a different combination of features, including:

Theme: woodland, mountain, or fantasy-inspired play environments

Gathering spaces: one large group area, smaller shaded picnic areas, or multiple tree-shaded benches throughout the site

Hill and berm play: a central hill, several smaller dispersed berms, or a berm along the entry road/sidewalk.

Play structure layout: play structures located on top of hills with ramps, at ground level, or connected mid-way by bridges to elevated features

Love when the community and schools can partner and great things can happen!
