It doesn’t matter if you are in downtown Denver, the suburbs or anywhere in the state, as I reported in that previous story, Colorado law states when you see a red turn arrow, you are supposed to stop. You treat red turn arrows the same way as you would any red light or stop sign.
Driving You Crazy: I keep seeing drivers turning on the red arrow at Arapahoe Road and Colorado Boulevard
Valerie from Centennial writes, “What’s driving you crazy? I saw your article about the right turn on red arrow at 8th and Zuni. Was wondering about the same thing at the intersection in Centennial."

A recent finding from Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) found a 3.3% reduction in cellphone use while driving among Coloradans since the hands-free law took effect. CMT estimates that 88 crashes and 49 injuries caused by distracted driving have been prevented, indicating a positive effect of the legislation.”

The higher your speed, the less time you have to stop your car, and the worse any impact and subsequent injuries will likely be. Braking distance increases exponentially at speeds over 45 MPH.
