Beer is so amazing. Time is an important factor in the brewing process. This beer is now wonderful! It looked infected, smelled sour when first carbonated, but now (3 weeks later) it is a wonderful scotch ale (8.5%) Green Mountain Mashers

We are partnering with the Brewers Association to share its new draught line safety course for adjacent workers. It is a free, online short course developed by the Brewers Association in response to real-world events whereby poor line cleaning safety practices resulted in a brewery salesperson ingesting caustic. We hope these unfortunate incidents can be prevented through worker training on safety awareness. The course was designed specifically for front-of-house workers, beer service staff, and anyone who works near line cleaning operations. We hope you enjoy the free course and encourage you to share it with other industry friends.

This is the last picture I took of beer practice. It’s from a few days ago. It’s been busy for me since I signed up for this back in the late winter. TODAY IS THE EXAM.

Last weekend I noticed that my sense of smell is not what it was when I started this. In my first practice test, I was able to correctly identify all the styles and off flavors. Last weekend, I couldn’t even identify a skunked beer! I don’t know the cause of my anosmia (the technical term.) I don’t think I have had Covid, maybe it’s due to age. I just don’t know. 👃🏼

It doesn’t matter because I am going to take the test anyway. I have worked hard, studied a lot, developed strategies and I will hope for the best. Wish me good luck and I’ll report back once I know my result. 🤞🏼🍻

May 18 is quickly approaching! These are pictures of some of my study sessions lately. Style descrimination is the easiest part of the tasting exam. Not only do I know and understand the differences in beer styles, I can taste the differences. The slight sweetness in the milk stout is identifiable. Who knows what will be on the exam, but I’m doing my best to prepare.

The challenge is the off flavors caused in brewing. They are just hard for me to identify! I will be practicing them all weekend.

May 1 -18 days and counting. Did some pretty serious off flavor work. I’m very grateful for help and support from Julie Smith who put together my at-home kit.

I found this pretty challenging because the control was not an American lager, but rather a pretty hoppy American IPA. Pulling the flavors out got easier as the beers warmed up.
