Board of the Week: Welcome Back!

Walk down any hallway at Compass Classical Academy and you'll find bulletin boards our teachers put together for the new school year. Over the next few weeks, we're sharing some of our favorites.

First up: a stack of books, an apple, and a little chalkboard that says it best. Back to school!

What was your student most excited to come back to this fall?

Memorizing a good poem is a gift that lasts.

In a classical education, students learn passages by heart, building memory, attention, and a love of language. A few minutes of recitation at home, on the drive to school or around the dinner table, adds up quickly.

What poem or verse do you still remember from your own school days?

Honesty is a habit, and habits are built early.

At Compass Classical Academy, we talk with students about telling the truth, owning mistakes, and doing the right thing when no one is watching. These small moments of integrity add up to strong character.

“Integrity is doing what is right even when no one would ever know.”

Why do our younger students memorize so much?

In a classical education, the early grades are a time for building a storehouse of knowledge: poems, math facts, history timelines, and the parts of speech. Young minds hold on to these things easily, and later they become the raw material for deeper thinking and discussion.

“What students memorize today, they will understand and use tomorrow.”

Has your student recited anything for you at home lately?
