Last Wednesday was Senior Presentation Day at Arcadia. In order to graduate from Arcadia, each senior must complete a challenging, interdisciplinary year-long Senior Project. This project includes at least a 100 hours of work, and involves working with a mentor from the community that is an expert in the content. Students choose the topics, complete ten to fifteen pages of reflective writing, and present to Arcadia students and staff during Senior Presentation Day. There will be two Senior Presentation Nights on May 5th and May 7th for the Northfield community.

Arcadia Charter School proudly hosts at least one artist residency each year, and this spring our students continued their powerful journey with the WITNESS program through VocalEssence.
Last year’s residency explored the theme “Eyes STILL on the Prize.” This year, “Eyes STILL on the Prize II” deepened and expanded that learning, inviting students to engage through movement, poetry, and storytelling.
Through this work, students were introduced to three extraordinary living Minnesotans whose impact reaches far beyond our state:
Dr. Reatha Clark King
Dr. Josie Johnson
Rose McGee
From February 2–6, resident artist Karla Nweje worked with Arcadia students in grades 6–10 during social studies classes to create an immersive, interdisciplinary experience. Students learned dance movement and crafted original poetry to honor the stories and legacies of these trailblazing women.
We are proud of our students for engaging so thoughtfully with history, art, and the power of lived experience.

On Thursday Grade 8 students in Chris Sullivan Kelley’s Social Studies class made a connection to their study of South Africa in the period following apartheid. The movie Invictus tells the story of how the sport of rugby brought the country together after the country ended apartheid. The 8th Graders learned how to play rugby with members of the Carleton College Women’s Rugby team. Here are some pictures from the activity. It appears the students really enjoyed themselves.

Bonsoir to the lovers of French Cuisine!

In Christine Honore's French language class students celebrated the end of the quarter with families bringing into school a variety of foods that originated in France.

Most students tried to eat things that they had never had before, and many liked what they tried. Just a few of them stayed safe and stuck to the sweet options! 😅.

You can see in the pictures some of the delicious dishes that students were able to sample.

On Wednesday, January 7th ten Arcadia High School students attended the Career is Cars workshop event at the Twin Cities Auto Show. The event was sponsored by the Minnesota Automotive Dealers Association and gave students a chance to learn about career opportunities in the automotive service industry. After the workshop students were able to tour the autoshow and ride in a jeep through the all terrain course. It was an educational and fun event.

See if you recognize some of the iconic crime vehicles from crime fighting movies and television shows that were at the autoshow.

What a night!! On December 7th the Arcadia Community pulled off an outstanding ThanksGive fundraiser at the Grand Event Center. The success was due to a fabulous ThanksGive Student Committee and lots of support from the Marketing Committee and Arcadia Staff. The advisory skits were the next level! Every student should be proud of their contributions to making this the highest grossing ThanksGive EVER!

Enormous gratitude to everyone who came together to make this happen, including the students, families, staff, and local businesses, especially The Grand Event Center!

In World History this past week high school students learned about the Silk Road trade route to China. Each student was assigned a role as European or Middle East trader from the 13th Century. Their goal was to travel to the Great Kublai Khan’s Yuan Dynasty court and bargain for highly sought after Chinese goods. This proved to be quite a challenge as the Great Khan (played by our very own Social Worker) demanded much from the traders in exchange for Chinese silk and spices. Here are some pictures from the Silk Road activity.
