Norwich University's Strength & Conditioning program has been recognized as a Collegiate Program of Distinction by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, placing the Cadets among the first institutions in the country to earn the NSCA's newly established designation.

Introduced this year, the recognition is awarded to collegiate strength & conditioning programs that meet established professional standards in program supervision, coaching mentorship, program administration, and facility management. Norwich joins the University of Michigan among the early recipients of the distinction.

"The NSCA Program of Distinction isn't an award. It's a statement that you're doing this job the right way," Director of Strength & Conditioning Scott Caulfield said. "For us, that means safety is never negotiable, progression is always earned, and our athletes are supported by a staff that holds itself to the highest professional standard every single day.

"That recognition matters because it tells our athletes, our institution, and our profession that we aren't just meeting the bar. We're committed to raising it."

The three-year recognition highlights the standards behind a Norwich Strength & Conditioning program that supports more than 600 student-athletes while emphasizing athlete safety, professional development, coaching education, and mentorship.

Norwich University's Department of Athletic Communications has announced a promotion and a new addition to its staff ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.

Nico Leonard M'27 has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletic Communications after making an immediate impact during his first year in Northfield. Leonard quickly became one of the department's most visible creative voices through his photography, videography, and multimedia work, including content shared through his platform and across Norwich's primary social media channels.

James Salvas M'28 joins the department as Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant after already becoming a familiar voice to Norwich fans during the 2025-26 season. Salvas served as the play-by-play broadcaster for all 16 Norwich Women's Ice Hockey home games during the Cadets' historic LEC championship and NCAA Frozen Four campaign.

"This is an exciting step for our department and for the continued growth of Athletic Communications at Norwich," said Associate Director of Athletic Communications Ben Zacher '20 M'25. "With Nico and James in these roles, our department is in a strong position to keep elevating the way we tell the stories of Norwich student-athletes."

Leonard and Salvas will now take on expanded roles across Norwich's 23 varsity programs through written storytelling, visual content, live broadcasts, social media, statistics, and game-day operations.

Congratulations to Nico, and welcome to the team, James!

The Norwich University football family, alumni, friends, and supporters gathered at Granite Links Country Club last week for the eighth annual Paul Ricker ’79 and Michael Crimmins ’80 Memorial Golf Tournament.

More than 100 golfers and numerous sponsors came together to celebrate the lives and legacies of two Norwich Athletic Hall of Famers while supporting the scholarship established in their names.

Through the dedication of the Ricker and Crimmins families, the tournament committee, alumni, teammates, sponsors, and friends, more than $150,000 has been raised to endow the Paul Ricker ’79 and Michael Crimmins ’80 Memorial Scholarship.

This year’s recipient was Norwich football student-athlete Alex Riker ’27, a rising senior whose toughness, selflessness, and commitment to service have made him one of the program’s most respected teammates. This spring, Riker was identified as a potential marrow donor match and agreed to donate to help provide another person with a chance at life.

Each year, the tournament brings generations of Norwich people together through friendship, family, remembrance, and football, keeping Paul and Mike close to the program they helped define.
