We are proud to be among the first higher education institutions recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education for our work integrating sustainability across the college, including through the curriculum, research, operations, career preparation, and community engagement.

The new Carnegie Elective Classification for Sustainability recognizes the integration of sustainability across the curriculum, research, operations, career preparation, and community engagement.

: Sixty years ago today, Carleton kicked off its year-long centennial celebrations with a gala all-school party. The October 1 Saturday featured the cutting of a giant 100-year birthday cake in the shape of Willis Hall, and fireworks over Bell Field followed by a buffet supper in the Tea Room, old-time movies in First Willis, and three separate dances: a go-go rock club in Sayles Hill, “smooth” dancing in Great Hall, and an “old-time” dance in the Gridley Hall dining room. The entire 1966-67 academic year featured numerous symposia and events each term to mark the close of the college’s first century.

Field Notes — an exhibition showcasing new work by Carleton studio art faculty in response to the landscapes, histories, and ecological significance of the Carleton Arboretum — is at the Perlman Teaching Museum through Nov. 18. Congratulations to art professor Stephen Mohring on being awarded a Periclean Faculty Leader Course Grant from Project Pericles! This funding will support the development of a new ACE course at Carleton, Habitats and Humanity: Considering Built Spaces, which will be taught for the first time in Spring 2027.
