Open Door Preschool Play Learn Grow! Open Door Preschool is a part-day preschool program located in Northfield, Minnesota. At Open Door, children are free to be children.

We offer 2-day and 3-day programs for children 3-6 years old. Equipment and activities are designed especially for them. We seek to encourage effective interaction providing opportunities for emotional, physical, cognitive and social growth. We seek to nurture self-esteem and to develop healthy attitudes toward self and others. Open Door provides a positive, nurturing environment for a child’s total growth. Art, music, dramatic play, story-time, large and small motor activities and social interactions in a play setting are all part of our developmentally appropriate program.

FINAL ASK: Help Us Transform Our Preschool Playground and foster a strong sense of community! 🌟

As Give to the Max Day comes to a close, we’re reaching out with one last heartfelt request.

With your support, we’re working to install a new, nature-inspired playground landscape that will serve children for years to come, and can continue to foster a strong sense of community.
🌟
"We discovered Open Door Preschool halfway through the school year, right after our daughter turned three. At the time, we were simply looking for a part-time preschool where she could play with other kids and maybe learn a little along the way. The flexible schedule and hours fit our family perfectly – but what we ended up finding was so much more than childcare. We found a community.

From day one, the teachers made us feel at home. They are truly some of the kindest, most joyful people I’ve ever met, and they set the tone for an environment where kids feel safe, welcomed, and excited to learn. Each week has a theme and a learning focus, but at Open Door the magic is how naturally learning happens through play. Charlotte is always eager to tell me about what they explored that day – science, art, friends, adventures. She even teaches me things sometimes! (Did you know caterpillars come out of chrysalises, not cocoons? I didn’t!)

But the very best part of Open Door is the community it creates. Charlotte doesn’t just “go to preschool” she goes to spend time with her friends. Those friendships have grown beyond the classroom, and we’ve met so many wonderful families through Open Door. It has made living in Northfield feel warmer and even more connected.

What started as a search for a simple part-time preschool became one of the most meaningful parts of our last two years. Open Door Preschool has been a gift to our family, and we’re so grateful to be a part of it."

Our little learners spend some of their most joyful, imaginative moments outdoors — exploring, discovering, and growing. This year, we’re working on a Playground Landscape Improvement Project to create a safer, greener, and more engaging space for all our children on the hillside of the outdoor play space.

We’re hoping to add:
✨ Shady areas for reading and quiet play
✨ Natural play elements (boulders, flowers, and sensory paths)
✨ Improved ground cover for safety (eco-grass)
✨ Fresh plants to make the space vibrant and inviting

To bring this vision to life, we need your help.
Every contribution — big or small — goes directly toward materials, plants, and the installation that will make our playground a place where children can learn, laugh, and thrive.

If you’re able, please consider donating to support this project. $3,600 will allow this space to come to life. Here is the link to contribute:
