Nothing can beat a home cooked meal and laughter around a dinner table 😋

Last month, the Hope Ignites Chicago Associate Board joined our Scholars for dinner.

Scholars shared stories about their first time in New York with Envision U, ongoing summer activities, and asked fellow Loyola Academy alumni about their experience in the 2010s.

Thanks to our amazing residential staff for providing a delicious home cooked meal for our guests!

Eighty-three young people from across the Hope Ignites Network spent a week at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, for Envision U 2026, building community, giving back, and exploring
their paths to college.

Five rising seniors made the trip from Hope Ignites Chicago, accompanied by Vernon Green, our amazing Coordinator of Scholar & Collegian Services. This immersive program exists to help young people see their futures more clearly, and to walk toward them with confidence. The program included workshops on professional development, college preparation, a college fair, and networking oppportunities. Of course, there was also a service component with NYC H2O, a nonprofit water ecology organization. Scholars rolled up their sleeves and their pant legs to help clean up Baisley Pond Park in Queens, NYC. It wasn't all hard work - our Scholars also got the opportunity for some
sight seeing while they were there!

Thank you Hope Ignites HQ for providing this wonderful opportunity for our Scholars!

Thank you to Gardeneers and our friends at HomanRailsFarm, for a wonderful Gardeneers Community Day of service for our Scholars on Saturday. This amazing non-profit teaches students about growing produce. It also supports food justice on Chicago’s West Side, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to the communities where their garden sites are located. They have given away approximately 13,500lbs of fresh produce to the community! Saturday was a great history lesson on the Homan Rails Farm area and how impactful the work is.
Our Scholars helped pick up trash, spread wood chips around fruit bushes, w**d the beds, and build wheelbarrows!
After toiling in the sun, Scholars devoured hamburgers, hot dogs, and cold drinks. They also had the opportunity to meet other members of the community who were donating their time to this important cause.

Thanks to our student volunteers for giving their time to help us sort books as we build a library for our Scholar homes.

Do you have any used books or scientific and graphing calculators? We are currently accepting book donations. Our Scholars are interested in young-adult fiction, mystery, and graphic novels. We are also happy to accept any gently-used versions of your favorite reads.

Donations can be dropped off at the Loyola Academy front desk through July 29.
