The Christopher Laughlin School of Music

The Christopher Laughlin School of Music Offering private lessons in guitar, voice, piano, strings, drums, and bass. Give us a call so that we can help start your musical journey today!

The Christopher Laughlin School of Music started in 1996 as the Christopher Laughlin Classical Guitar Studio, occupying a one-room office in Glenview, IL. At the time Christopher Laughlin had been a successful performing classical guitarist for many years, having toured across North America and in over 25 nations on five continents, and was an in-demand guitar teacher working at multiple conservat

ories and universities. He decided to form his own school in order to consolidate most of his teaching in one location. Over the years he gradually added more teachers, more lesson programs, and more space. The CLSM currently has a faculty of 17 music teachers who work with approximately 250 students per week. All of our teachers have at least a bachelor's degree in music and most have advanced degrees. They have attended institutions such as Yale, Northwestern, Berklee, Indiana University, DePaul, Cleveland Institute of Music, and the University of Chicago. A number of our students have gone on to study at elite music conservatories and universities across the country. Many of our alumni are working professional musicians, playing all across the United States in a variety of musical styles. Even those students who may not go on to study music at the collegiate level have told us how much they valued their education at The Christopher Laughlin School of Music. No matter your career goals or musical aspirations, music lessons are a fantastic way to engage, create, and have fun!

Did you know…President Bill Clinton designated September to be observed as Classical Music Month in 1994? Here's a direct quote from his Proclamation 6716,

“Classical music is a celebration of artistic excellence. Great art endures through the ages, and in the United States, we have embraced that great music and incorporated it into the American experience. Our best art reflects our Nation's spirit - that mixture of discipline and improvisation, the combination of strong individual voices working together at the same time, the bravado, the inventiveness, the dynamism of the American character. Classical music plays in harmony with that energy and spirit to become reinvigorated and reinvented with each new orchestra or chamber group, with every performance that rings out new and fresh.
This month we exalt the many talented composers, conductors, and musicians who bring classical music to our ears. These artists carry on a great tradition of musical achievement, and we are proud of their outstanding accomplishments. Whether in new American works or in the masterpieces of the great composers of old, music is a unifying force in our world, bringing people together across vast cultural and geographical divisions. Classical music speaks both to the mind and to the heart, giving us something to think about as well as to experience.”
