Here's what we're reading this month in the MIND Lab!

Ever wonder how children actually develop self-control, focus, and memory?
For years, we thought executive function skills could be trained like a muscle using simple cognitive games. But a major review published in Nature Reviews Psychology shows it’s far more nuanced.

In our last video, we learned how polar water molecules stick together by cohesion and adhesion to create an elastic like film over the surface of our water, we call this phenomenon surface tension, and it was strong enough to hold 17 drops of water on our penny! Today we are demonstrating how weak surface tension is! It can be broken just by touching it with a little detergent!

We're back with more experiments you can do with your preschooler! Today we are learning about the surface tension of water by seeing how many drops of water we can fit on a penny!
Water is polar, molecules have a positive and negative end like a magnet that allows them to stick together. Water sticks to itself (cohesion) and to the penny (adhesion).
These forces are pretty strong, look how high the water is piled before gravity makes it fall down!
