Last week was a wonderful mix of smiles, tears, laughs, and songs as we closed out the 2025-26 school year. We let out all our energy at Field Day, belted out some tunes with our elementary and middle school bands, and graduated four incredible 8th graders that we will miss deeply. Thank you to everyone in the community for joining and supporting us all year. ππ§‘πβ€οΈ

Thank you to Jocelyn Demuth of Checkerspot Farm and the Five Hundred Yard Field Trip for awarding MSN a grant for native plants to attract insects and host various caterpillar species at our school. This project provides educational materials for kindergarten through middle school students to help them learn about native plants and the natural world around them. It started to help address and raise awareness of a concerning reality: insect populations are declining rapidly, even faster than mammals. A major reason for this decline is that the insects lack sufficient habitat because native plants are being removed, replaced, or outcompeted by non-native plants. We are so proud our students are helping to reverse this trend in such a meaningful way. π± π π¦

Middle school is the culmination of the MSN experience, where learning and purpose meet real life.
Students run their own businesses, mentor younger students, adventure through the natural world, bring their work out into the field, immerse themselves in the local community, and demonstrate their learning through public exhibitions like Model UN.
Beyond the textbooks and lessons, the focus in middle school is valorization, which helps young adolescents discover that they are strong, capable, and worthy of contributing to society.

In Upper Elementary, students begin to forge their own path. Maria Montessori called this level the "cosmic curriculum" and it's easy to see why when you see the depth of their academic exploration. π
Students learn how to study, organize their days, meet deadlines, and see their lessons come to life in the real world. These skills build their confidence, independence, accountability, and self-discipline. Itβs here that they start to become the person they will be.

Lower Elementary is the beginning of what Maria Montessori deemed the second plane of development.
Students are beginning to see the interconnectedness of all things while learning about the history of the earth, civilizations around the world, social justice, and community service.
Each day, students are given the freedom to choose how they wish to accomplish their work. This helps them begin to develop independence, collaboration, self-discipline, and time management skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

In Children's House, experienced teachers help guide students through the exciting preschool and kindergarten years. π
Each child is given the chance to develop their mental abilities and satisfy their natural inquisitiveness in an environment that respects their unique learning style and creativity.

We're driving cars, we're hanging upside down, we're putting buckets on our heads. We're getting wacky at recess. π
