For 50 years, the art program at MSN has introduced students to history, culture, and artists from around the world through techniques, concepts, and vocabulary.

The art room has always been and always will be a place for exploration, creation, and discovery, a place where imaginations run wild, curiosities are piqued, and lifelong joys are developed.

Throughout MSN's 50 years, our values of inclusiveness, kindness, and compassion have been brought to life by our students. They've organized Peace Day celebrations, marched in Noho Pride Parades, and advocated for climate action.

The hope for every Montessori graduate is that they will apply their education to the world around them, but often that work starts when they're still a student.

1986 marked the start of a historic transition for MSN. When Sylvia Kriebel decided to step down, the school's future was in limbo. In stepped a handful of parents to save the school and bring it to its current home.

At the time, 51 Bates was an old farmhouse with just a few classrooms. Over the next decade, it would be led through multiple expansions in square footage and class offerings by then head of school Susan Swift.

At the turn of the century, the school largely resembled the one we know and love today with more exciting developments on the horizon.

The year is 1976 and Montessori School of Northampton has just opened its doors. The two-classroom house in Florence was founded by Sylvia Kriebel, a lifelong peace and civil rights activist and much of the Montessori experience remains the same in 2026.

There are still songs throughout the day, close observation from teachers, and of course, Burchie Green, who was one of the first hires and still teaches at the school today.

We hope your garden harvests are as bountiful as our Farm to Table summer program. Our students learned so much about preparing and preserving fruits and veggies and turning their haul into delicious baked goods. πŸ…πŸ₯’πŸ«πŸŒΌ
