The show “Between Trees” is being shown at the Nolen Art Lounge until October 20th! Below are a few words from the artist herself.

The Show
This show started with the Long Dog print, which was made in the quick, improvisational process of monoprinting and has stuck in my head since then. I’m interested in this space between clear thought, the out-of-the-corner-of-your-eye dissolving dream space. In the waking world, it is necessary to separate truth from untruth, real from unreal. In this dusky dreamy state those binaries are too restrictive. This “other” space is important to me, an antidote to industrialization and rigidity, a source of inspiration.
For this show, I am attempting to bring back souvenirs, ambassadors, to remind us of this “other.” Horses in particular have a long history of bringing us to places that would be otherwise difficult to access. Like Falada in the myth of the Goose Girl, whose decapitated head still speaks for his rider, their bond with humans helps us bridge gaps, between space, time, and even death.
When you look between trees at night, what do you see?

The Artist
Sequoia LeBreux is a multimedia artist from Western Massachusetts. She is currently an Ada Comstock scholar at Smith College where she studies printmaking and sculpture. She lives with her partner in Turners Falls, where they have recently built a home pottery studio and rocket kiln. All firing and glazes are collaborative processes. You can find her work in person at Waterway Arts as well as online at 13roots.my.canva.site and 13 Roots Art on Instagram.
