We’re kicking off the month by celebrating what makes our students, and our school community, so special.

We asked our students to share what they love about being at a school designed for students with dyslexia and ADHD, and their answers did not disappoint. 🥹

This month is all about celebrating strengths, building understanding, and helping every student feel proud of the way they learn.

And we’re just getting started! We have so much more planned throughout October. ✨

Is 4th or 5th grade feeling harder for your child? You’re not imagining it. 📚

Around this age, students shift from learning to read to reading to learn. Suddenly, reading and writing are the gateway to every subject.

For a child still building foundational literacy skills, that shift can show up as:

💭 Saying “I’m just not smart”

Here’s what we want every parent to know: this is a powerful window, not a closing door. With explicit, structured instruction in an environment built around how they learn, students grow their skills, their independence, and their confidence.

Our largest family fundraiser of the year is officially underway, and we’re working together toward a $40,000 goal for Prentice! ❤️

All proceeds from our annual Fit-A-Thon go towards our Classroom Renovation Project which includes new classroom technology, student furniture, new outdoor learning spaces and much more.

Prentice is turning 40! 🎉

The 2026–27 school year marks 40 years of The Prentice School, which means four decades of students finding confidence, families finding community, teachers making a difference, and moments that have become part of our Prentice story.

As we prepare to celebrate at our 40th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, April 10, 2027, we want to hear from the people who helped make those 40 years possible.

Dyslexia rarely travels alone.

For many children, reading is only one piece of the picture.

There may also be ADHD. Anxiety. Dysgraphia. Working memory challenges. Processing speed differences. Executive functioning difficulties. Auditory processing challenges.

And when all of those needs collide in a traditional classroom, what adults see on the outside can easily be misunderstood.

The child who avoids reading may be overwhelmed.
The child who needs repetition may be struggling with working memory.
The child who takes longer to finish an assignment may need more time to process.
The child who falls apart at home may have spent the entire school day working twice as hard just to keep up.
The child who says, “I can’t,” may really be saying, “I don’t know how to do this in the way you’re asking me to.”

That is why the right school environment matters.

At a specialized school like The Prentice School, these differences aren’t unusual. Our school is built around them.

Our students don’t have to be the only child in the classroom who needs explicit instruction, extra processing time, help organizing their thoughts, support with executive functioning, or a different way to learn.

Our teachers understand the whole child, not just the dyslexia.

Because the best support isn’t asking a child to work harder.

Another successful Back to School Night filled with conversations about subject material and catching up with friends. What was special about this one? It was the first time many parents could see all of our new renovations! Also, Poppy, our Prentice pup, always makes it special, too 🐾

High school is closer than it feels. Is your 7th grader ready? 🎓

For students with dyslexia and ADHD, preparing for high school means more than simply passing 7th grade.

The increased reading. The longer writing assignments. More complex math and science. Managing multiple classes, deadlines, homework, and expectations with greater independence.

The skills they build now matter.

At The Prentice School, our Junior High program provides targeted instruction in reading, writing, math, and science, while also helping students strengthen the executive functioning and learning skills they’ll need to navigate high school with greater confidence and independence.

Because the goal isn’t simply to get your child to high school.

What can happen when a child finally receives the right intervention? 💙📚

At the beginning of the 2024–2025 school year, just 20% of Prentice students in Grades 2–8 were approaching or performing at grade level in reading accuracy.

By May, 84% of Prentice students were approaching or performing at grade level in reading accuracy.

For students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences, progress doesn’t come from simply giving them more time. It comes from giving them instruction designed for the way they learn.

At The Prentice School, specialized intervention is built into the school day so students can strengthen foundational skills, experience meaningful progress, and begin seeing themselves differently as learners.

The right intervention can change a child’s trajectory. Don’t wait another school year to find out what’s possible.

🌟 It’s official…buddies are back! 🌟

Today marked the first day of our 6th & 3rd grade Buddies, and the smiles said it all. From icebreakers to shared laughs, our older students stepped into their roles as mentors and role models, while our younger Panthers found new friends to look up to.

This simple pairing builds so much: confidence, friendship, leadership, and a stronger sense of belonging across our whole school community. 💙
