Welcome to the Wheeler Counseling Department page! Our department supports the academic, career, and personal growth needs of all students through individual and group meetings, and via classroom lessons. The theme for our lessons is Healthy Relationships, and we look forward to teaching students how to communicate with each other, manage stress, deal with peer pressure, respect one anoth

er, and build positive relationships with their peers and the adults in their lives. We consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and staff to understand our students and best support their academic and social/emotional needs, respond to crisis situations, promote a positive school climate, and teach our students to be self advocates.

Mystic Aquarium is currently accepting applications for our summer teen volunteer program, The Blue Crew. This program is for teenagers ages 15 through 17 and it gives students the choice of a few volunteer roles at the Aquarium, including assisting in our summer camps! A few key details:

Program runs from June 26th through September 1st and participants must commit to 7 weeks of service or one full week of camp. Interviews will be on campus on Tuesday, May 16th from 4:30 to 6 pm and Saturday, May 20th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Milne Building.
Initial orientation is done online and must be completed prior to the week of June 24th.

The Connecticut Congressional Delegation is excited to be hosting a Service Academy Information Session Night on May 24th from 5-7 pm at the MG Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center (Middletown), 375 Smith Street Middletown, CT 06082. There will be representatives from each Service Academy there to present for their respective academy and answer any questions you may have.

The application period is officially open for Electric Boat’s Summer High School Intern Program - SHIP!

If you know any high school students currently in their junior year, who would be interested in this eight-week, paid summer internship, we encourage you to share with them. The application period will close on Thursday, April 20th. Need a flyer to share? Just message us and we will send you one!

Program Overview:
Local high school juniors will be offered an 8 week long, paid summer internship with Electric Boat. They will work side-by-side with mentors who have years of shipbuilding experience.

>The internship will run June 26, 2023 – August 18, 2023.

>Interns must have completed their junior year of high school by start of internship

>Each intern must be at least 16 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and be able to complete a physical and drug screening.

Internships will be available for the following:

Quonset Point Operations: Electrical, Machining, Pipefitting and Welding

Groton Operations: Electrical, Carpentry, Machining, Pipefitting, Sheetmetal Mechanics, Shipfitting and Welding

Groton Design: Materials, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical and Piping/HVAC
