The belt is just a receipt. Proof that the hours happened.

Nobody on the mat cares what color is around your waist after the first thirty seconds of a round. They care how you move, how you think, whether you've actually put in the work.

The rank follows the hours. Never the other way around.

Tag someone still early in the journey.

August at Raiz 🤍

A look at the everyday moments that make our academy what it is: the classes, the training, and the steady progress on the mats. It’s all about an environment where people simply show up to learn and grow together. 💪🏻

If you’ve been curious about our classes, our doors are always open.

Come watch a session, ask us anything, or step on the mat to try it out. Send us a message and we’ll gladly help you take the first step.

In 1993, a family had to pick one fighter to prove their martial art worked. They picked the guy least likely to win on purpose.

UFC 1. Denver. No weight classes, no rules, no time limits. Eight men, one night.

The logical choice was Rickson Gracie undefeated, intimidating, widely considered the best fighter in the family. They sent Royce instead. 178 pounds. The smallest man in the bracket.

Why? Because they didn’t want to prove that a great fighter could win. They wanted to prove that the technique worked even for someone who didn’t look like a fighter.

That night he submitted three larger opponents. One of them weighed 250 pounds.

The message was never “this guy is exceptional.” It was: this works for people who aren’t.

Everyone who walks in here for the first time thinks they don’t have the right body, the right age, the right conditioning. The entire art was built for exactly that person.

You don’t need to look like a fighter. That was always the point.

Every person who's ever trained jiu-jitsu has had this exact Tuesday.

You've watched the technique. You understand it. And then someone shoots in and your body does something completely different and you're back on the bottom wondering if any of it is actually going in.

It is. It's just going in slower than you'd like. That gap between knowing and doing is the whole game. Closing it takes one thing: showing back up on Wednesday.

Tag your training partner who's in this phase right now.

Couldn’t be more proud of my boy, a.k.a. my oldest son. ❤️

This kid has been putting in the work for YEARS. Boxing fights, MMA fights, kickboxing fights—countless hours of training, sacrifice, discipline, and dedication.

And now, it’s finally his time.

He’s officially making his PRO DEBUT! 🥊🔥

Be ready, because this kid has so much to offer. I’ve watched the work he’s put in behind the scenes, and I know what he’s capable of.

Now it’s his time to step into that cage and SHINE.

Proud of you, son. This is only the beginning. 👊🔥

Your exhaustion isn't just physical. Your nervous system is trapped in an unfinished stress cycle. 🧠💼

We accumulate survival hormones all day from traffic, emails, and deadlines but we never physically release them.

Going for a jog while overthinking your workday doesn't close the loop. You need an activity that forces your mind completely into the present moment.

On the mats at Raiz Jiu-Jitsu, the outside world ceases to exist. It’s the only true way to reboot your brain, sweat out the cortisol, and leave the gym as a calmer, sharper version of yourself.

Instant gratification is the enemy of resilience. 📱⚡️

The constant flood of cheap dopamine from screens has rewired how children handle challenges. If it’s not instant, they lose interest. Traditional sports often struggle to break this cycle because kids can easily withdraw when it gets tough.

They need a physical reset. An environment that reintroduces the value of patience, hard work, and delayed gratification.

At Raiz Jiu-Jitsu, we teach kids to fall in love with the process of earning success, one day at a time.

Soccer. Swimming. Piano. Tutoring. A new iPad with parental controls.

Sound familiar? Most parents have tried at least three things before they find the one that actually holds their kid's attention and builds something in them at the same time.

Jiu-jitsu works for a simple reason: it's the only activity where your kid has to be fully present, every single minute. You can coast through a soccer game. You can't coast on the mat.
