Hello families,
It's my favorite time of year again, SPRING! Spring brings warmer weather, blooming plants and the return of Bike Club. What is bike club? The only after school club that, teaches bike and road safety, biking laws, using the UTA transit system, works on social skills, coordination, gives your student a means of independent transportation skills, and has a FIELD tip at the end of the school year.

Lets address who is eligible for this fantastic club.Must be in 6th grade or higher.
Be able to ride in groups with 1:6 ratios independently
Able to maintain safe behavior
Application completed and turned in
Have fee paid

Fees?
Yes, you ask why?
As much as I love working here at Spectrum and volunteering my time to share my passion for riding, it does cost to run a program. Your fees go to general needs and educational supplies, parts for bike repairs, snacks, teeshirts, awards, and field trips.

What are the fees?
$40 for the Fall and Spring sessions
$35 for just the Spring session (this is where most of the cost are accrued)

You are also welcome to Sponsor a student. Not all or students that want to ride can afford it. To sponsor, add a note on your form and pay your donation at the office. You can donate whatever amount you would like to. No, your student does not need to ride to sponsor another student.

The time and location?
We meet every Wednesday at 3:20 - 5 PM We will have our first ride on March 12th at 3:20 - 5:00 PM. Please plan on meeting on the GRASS next to the sheds at the intermediate building. This is for student safety. Please do not hang out in the parking lot.

What if the weather is bad?
Utah weather is delightfully unpredictable. We will do our best to notify you as early as possible through emails when we have to cancel. However please note it has happened before that the weather changes an hour or less before school gets out. Please just plan on it being canceled in these cases.
Reasons we will cancel:
Temperatures are below 45
Red air quality
Heavy rain
Thunder or lightning
Parent-Teacher Conferences (1 a term)
Professional development training (Seldom)
We want to keep everyone safe!!!

When do I pick up my student?
It is our policy to wait with your son or daughter for about five minutes as we clean up after the bike club. However, if you are not here by the time and we must leave, we are not responsible for their care after that. Please plan on picking up your student by 5:00 pm.
We are not responsible for making sure your student attends. You and your student will need to make other arrangements if they choose not to attend that day.
Thank you for your understanding of these concerns as we keep your child's safety a priority.
If you have additional question please feel free to reach out to me.

The 1st Annual Disability Advocacy Day!
Disability Advocacy Day is an opportunity to highlight the issues and concerns facing people
with disabilities in Utah. Disability Advocacy Day will include workshops, speakers,
informational exhibits, and networking opportunities with legislators and other advocates.
This event will provide opportunities for self-advocates and families to learn about the
legislative process, and will give them opportunities to make their voices heard by
legislators about policy and budget issues that affect their services and supports.
To register for the legislative advocacy workshops or to request an accommodation to participate, please
contact Susana Canton at 1-800-662-9080 or [email protected]. All requests for
accommodations, including ASL or Spanish language interpreters, must be made by Monday, January 27,

2020.

Good day,
I am Mrs. Joan, I am the Internship Coordinator at Spectrum Academy NSL this year.
I am arranging Career days for our students. Our students are interested in learning about all the career possibilities. I am looking for people to come and share information about their career. I would love to have you come and talk to our students about your career and specifically what you do. Including information regarding education requirements, skills needed and the things they should know. The good, the bad and everything in between. This will give the students more in-depth knowledge of what different fields are really like.
I have career days coming up Jan 13th, March 25th, April 27th, and May 18th
Please contact me if you are willing or know someone willing to be one of our guests’ speakers.
Sincerely,
Joan Puffer
