At Cornerstone Montessori, we believe strong relationships build strong learners 🤍
When children experience consistent, caring adults, they develop secure attachments—giving them the confidence to explore, learn, and grow.

That’s why we’re so proud of our dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us for 5+ years. This consistency helps your child feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive every day.

How do we as those who lead children help tend and care for those seeds as they are blossoming into their full potential?

By preparing ourselves
By preparing the environment
By being consistent

Parent/Infant Saturday, I can never get enough of observing the children work. This child took these 3 items from the Environment and used them for his work. No adult told him what to do. It is through quiet observation that we learn to trust the natural development of the child. There is no need to hover, no need to constantly talk, or constantly shout out, “good job!” Children are constantly learning to master their bodies, will, and their Environment.

This time of the year the focus and concentration the children have is really amazing to observe. I can spend all day filming the various times I look around and say, “Wow these children are working as if we the adults/guides/teachers are not here.” On another note, please remember that some Environments are going to be very quite and some are lively. One isn’t better then the other, in saying that total chaos is not what we are aiming for.

I have a caddy for washing/scrubbing, it is mostly used for washing the baking table after the children prep the batter and pour the batter. This caddy can also be used for washing/scrubbing the easel, the wall, or any other surface. This child noticed paint on the wall near our easel, he spent close to 30 minutes scrubbing and cleaning. When he was done he was so proud of himself he brought me over and showed me the clean wall.

Most of us who teach are on Spring break. I like to come in just for a few hours each day to refresh and change materials. As I looked around my room I saw beautiful thoughtful materials put out for the children, that’s what gets on IG. What you don’t see is the complete behind the scenes mess! For those of you who are Guides/Leads you know what I’m talking about.

It’s that’s time in the year were the children are pretty self-sufficient. When a child asks for our help our standard answer is, “I’m busy.” We encourage them to ask a friend. In this observation a child is working on the button dressing frame showing her friend. She even says, “You’re looking.” Reminding him to watch her. This is when a child has truly learned something they can do it for themselves and show others how to do it, this is true self-esteem.

As the school year progresses the children grow more confident in their pouring skills. All different types of containers come out to practice this skill. Link in bio for the dispenser used in this video.

I call this dipping your toes in the water to test it out. I have observed many children do this as they learn to maneuver and grow confident in their bodies. This child was not ready to step down but he figured out how to get down by himself. Big kudos to the dad that sat patiently waiting, observing, and offering reassuring smiles on our Parent/Infant class.
