I’m often asked, “Where’s the best place you’ve ever dove?”
That’s a tricky question.
My bucket list is still a long one. I haven’t made it to the Red Sea or the Galápagos yet, and diving World War II wrecks is still high on my list.
But I have been fortunate enough to dive in some incredible places, and one destination keeps pulling me back even though there are so many other places I still want to see: the Philippines.
Not one particular dive site—the Philippines as a whole.
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend experiencing it from a liveaboard. We were fortunate enough to spend time aboard the Siren, and what an adventure it was.
During that trip we saw seahorses, whale sharks, galloping frog fish, and even black sand bubbling from volcanic activity beneath the ocean floor. Every dive seemed to reveal something new.
My favorite—and at the same time saddest—experience was the sardine run at Moalboal. Hovering in the middle of that massive swirling ball of fish made me feel incredibly small. It was one of those moments that leaves you completely in awe of nature.
At the same time, seeing garbage in the water from tourism and fishing activity was disheartening. It was a reminder of how fragile these incredible places really are and why protecting them matters.
So that’s my answer—for now.
